    movecube q's

i'm with u there. we've filled every draw shelf and gap with something. quite a loit packed so far but def not a house worth. large cube and we're fitting 1 standard book shelf, 2 thin bookcases, 2 tall boy sideboards, 1 tall cesdt of draws, one squat chest of drawers, toy box and double bed. lots of ornaments and pictures and sentimentral bits. kids toys, kitchen bits. stressing whether everything we want will fit.! we've cleared a room and marked the area and height out so are practice packing it but only time will tell. have to say so far 7 seas been very helpful. not packing it til July but if i remember i'll try and take pics
  4. I would book a hotel at airport and do as many trips to get it there then drop car at garage and jump on public transport. We had similar quandry as we live several hundred miles from airport so bought 2nd hand roof bars driving there with mil and she's taking car back to sell for us

hi just wondering if anyone knows whether i'll be able to ship food colouring and what I'll need to do if so? i make cakes as a hobbyand have lots of colouring pastes and gels. not the end of thevworld to have to leave them but would be such a waste if i did. i would probably ditch any open gels.

    moving nerves

hiya, i don't know if it's normal (i presume it is) but you're certainly not alone! i'm like you- plan to the nth degree and think too much about it. i was at dr earlier because i've been getting chest pains when i breath, not my asthma and no chest infection so they're putting it down to anxiety attacks. like you i'm not a good flier and will be on my own with 3 kids as hubby flies on ahead. not got any words of wisdom. just empathy :-)
  8. we too are going having never been. We can't afford to use funds to visit so we are commiting to 4 years minimum to get mine and my chidrens citizenship and then we'll address where we want to be then. if after all your research you and your family like what you see there is no reason not to try. if you visited it would all be holiday mode so it wouldn't give you a true reflection. good luck
  9. hi, my husband is a chef (oz citizen by descent)and would really like to start up his own outlet. watching wdu the other week there was a small business adviser that basically said getting a business start up loan was basically impossible as they would only loan against assets. we are not in a position where we own or have any significant investment (will obviously work towards having some sort of input). is it really as impossible as it sounded? i think we'd be looking at buying or leasing a unit plus equipment costs etc. anyone able to tell me their experience?

    Shipping Advice Please!

can i ask what groupage is? we want to use a large move cube but can't get one to come to our house as it's too far from depot down bad roads. so we are faced with either meeting half way and loading in a car park or using a relatives house. we have a couple of the big shippers coming to quote but think they're likely to end up more expensive. be i terested to hear of other options

lessons to teach the kids- wildlife

thanks Melza i like the tights tip. i plan to use that for a variety of things (car vents lol) i personally don't like being in the ocean, love being on it tho. but again don't want to scare them away from it. think hubby will have to do the beach visits. i'll have a pool thanks :-)
  12. Hi,we will be arriving in a few months to NSW. Looking at Sutherland Shire across to Cronulla to rent. We will have 3 kids aged 10; 6 and 4 by the time we are there. Now generally i am quite neurotic :embarrassed: around the children's safety. I am actually relatively grounded about the idea of creepy crawlies and snakes, i know the chance of encountering them is slim and the chance of being bitten even slimmer. But i want to educate the children to the dangers without having them living in fear. Ozzie kids will have grown up with things like knowing where to run etc. So what tips/ lessons do you have that. Can tech my kid that won't have me being laughed at for being a neurotic pom. Both on land and water. Thanks

lessons to teach the kids- wildlife

thanks homewardbound. i am not surprised by what you say in some respects. i live in Cornwall and certainly as a kid, if not now , we used to see lots of adders. i get very anxious for the kids on the dunes by the beach and this is why i am so adamant i will try not to be like his in Oz. i am glad i won't stand out as crazy mum for either telling my kids eveything will hurt them or for being ignorant of the concerns lol. i plan to have a spider and snake idenification chart to hand and i've told them that they will need to scan the garden as will i. they are not really kids that stick their hands under or in things only maybe to retrieve a ball, but evn then they are more likely to come and grab us to do it! But they will hide behind a shed or poke things. my youngest poked a wasps nest when she was little and got stung several times! Maybe she will have learnt!

    selling items (UK)

Hi, i after some ways to sell some of our larger husehold items. Things like sofas and dining tables etc. i am having no joy selling good quality bits. i've tried classifieds, facebook groups and ebay. i think we suffer being down the bottom tip of Cornwall as people just don't want to travel. Need to get a reasonable amount to help set us up in Oz. no point taking them as these are items we'll need straight off and not enugh other bits to pay for a container. anyone know any tricks/ tips?

    selling items (UK)

i looked the other day and couldn't see one but def going to look again. ironic as last night i got an enquiry re sofa but typically wanting me to practically give it away. Did have a 2nd enquiry via ebay so hoping they'll come back to me as that was a bit more realistic.

    What items to bring??

Can't answer for items. we are taking anything we don't want to replace. But re paperwork I am just scanning and shredding everything so we have access to account numbers and contact details etc and can be used as proof but without carting it all over there. Then just taking all legal items certificates passports etc. Hope that will be satisfactorybut wasn't going to cart the last 3 years of stuff over
  20. Hi, I am not totally sure this is right, but Iasked the same question a few months back to my local council. I recieve housing and council tax benefit and asked if my husband went on ahead would he be classed as living in the house for these purposes. They went off and checked and siad as long as he had left the country permanantly then no he wouln't. I do not hold a lot of faith in this answer as they didn't seem totally sure themselves- we may have to check the situation again soon though as this situation may be arising and I wnat to make sure that I can afford the house we are living in for the few moths I'll be here. I am not sure how it works for tax credits etc or income support. Maybe that they then look to your husband to send money home. Like you I'm not looking for money to fund my move we have that I jus want to ake sure that the things we receive now to boost our earnings don't get slashed and we can't afford to live. Child tax credits have a dedicated emigration team I believe so It may be worth calling and askin the situation - although I know getting astraight answer out of them isdificult and likewise ring your local authority and ask about housing/ counciltax benefit and see what they say. Citizens advice will also be good. If you are staying with family over there is there no way you can all go together? We would but hubby is staying witha friend and all 5 of us staying for the indefinate future would be too much to ask :-(

    bank charges for flights

hiya, not sure if this is the right part of the forum hopefully it is. i'm after someother peoples experience. we booked our flights with singapore airlines last week on their website. We are flying from Paris ( family are based there) and rather stupidly we didn't think about the cost being in Euros. so our lovely bank has popped another £100 on for using our card abroad . I am not expecting much but wondering if anyone else has had the same and whether i have any grounds for complaining about it? if not then let it heed any future bookers! thankfully we had more money in the account as its not one we use regularly.

    bank charges for flights

gosh i presumed itwas because iwas travelling frim a country that wasn't mie. wouldn't have expected it in your situation. i'll book through an agent in future. only reason i didn't this time was the baggage and guess what paris don't allow more than an extra kg! So prob could have done

    bank charges for flights

yeah i just didn't think about it properly. thought it might be worth a call to the bank 'don't ask don't get'. just figured as it was a website it wouldn't be classed as abroad. blumen banks lol
