  1. Hi We did a similar thing whilst we were waiting for our 173 to come through. We bought a cabin on a holiday park and spent 7 months on a tourist visa, we had some stuff shipped out but I said it was my daughters effects, that way you have an address and a visa to quote. We also thought about moving back and forwards on a tourist visa, but Australia expect you to spend a reasonable time out of the country before you come back in. So you could get to immigration and be turned away. Originally we were on a 103, but to save all the hassle decided to pay the money, It's a big wad to pay out, we are waiting to pay our second vac, and have applied, just waiting for CO to be appointed but in no rush. Hope this helps.
  2. I am taxed as a resident, my main concern is will I get taxed on my pension I get from UK, which I am already paying tax in UK. Regards Dave
  3. Hi We are living in Australia and entered on a 173 visa, we are in the process of paying the 2nd part to become PR. As a Temporary PR can I take advantage of the double taxation agreement. I get a HM forces pension from UK and pay UK tax. As I understand it when i apply for the double taxation I stop paying tax on my pension in UK and get taxed here in Australia. Is this correct??
  4. Hi We moved over last year and I sorted my NAB account from UK before we departed. As soon as we went straight to the Melbourne, Collins St and set the accounts up. We had no job, I have a part time job which gets paid directly into the NAB. I don't pay any fees even opening the account was free. Hope this helps. panman
  5. I am trying to find out how police checks are carried out now. We had ours done backin 2006 and it just required me to go to a police station and fill out a form. Phoned somebody today from the police somewhere??? it was an 0845 number. She said it had changed, is this true. The reason I'm asking is because I am changing my visa from a PV to CPV and have been in the queue since 2007. So when my application reaches Perth it should be processed fairly quick. And we are going back out to OZ in August on a Tourist Visa.
  6. Please help, 143 or 173 which do I go for?? We are changing our visa option from a 103 to either of the above. I think start with a 173 first !!! then get into OZ be able to work and recoup some money. Apply for the 143 after a couple of years and just carry on!!!! What do you think!! is it a similar waiting time for the process any disadvantages?? any comments would be very much appreciated. Dave
  7. Dear Audie and Catherine, Hope all works out for you gays in the end, life at times just seems so unfair, our grand daughter had to go in to ICU last year we both flew out and have tried since to find some sympathy from the authorities to allow us to stay in OZ. But as everyone finds out you just seem to hit as brick wall. The 30+ hour flight when you have no idea whats happening and what your going to be faced with when you arrive is a nightmare. Dave
  8. Good news nannadi, we have been in the queue since Sep 2007 on a 103 parent visa, but as they have cut the quota by half to only 700 a year we have decided to bit the bullet and pay for a 143. We return to UK on Thursday having been here for the last 7 months on a tourist visa. As soon as we get back our new application goes in. Which should be given priority because of our queue date. We are even having our medicals done again in Melbourne the day we leave, and police checks as soon we are back. So fingers crossed.
  9. Hi, Are you able to tell me how much the medical cost were for 1 adult applying for a 143. We are in Australia at the moment and looking at getting them done here before we return. From what I have read I think it's cheaper over here but it would be nice to get the info first hand. Rgds Dave
  10. Hi Alan, Could I pick your brains please, We have a house in UK which is being let at the moment. If we come here on a CPV and then after 6 months if we sell the house because maybe priced have risen or better exchange rate what is the deal on having to pay tax on the sale of my house. Many thanks Dave
  11. Yes know how you feel, last year our grand daughter was admitted to ICU in Melbourne with a serious chest infection, it got to the hospital asking about Organ donations!!!! We rushed from UK not knowing what to expect. Thankfully she pulled through and is fine. We have been in the queue since Sep 07 still over 6000 people in front of us, my wife has written to everyone including the PM. All have given us the same reply as you, NO WAY. We are now looking at swapping to CPV failing that we spend the next 5 years or so bouncing backwards and forwards. We have been in Australia for the last 6 months living down the peninsular but we are flying home in April hoping to return in August. Any way your not on your own Good Luck Dave
  12. Hi, We are currently in the queue on a 103 visa PV and thinking to change it to a CPV, we have been in the queue since Sep 2007 still at least 4 years away to getting PR. However because of where we are in the queue if we apply for a CPV we go to the top of list for processing. Has anyone done this recently if so how long did it take from resumitting your new visa application? For anyone who is intereted at the moment immigration are processing PV from Aug 2003 that's hot of the press as of today. I spoke to Perth today but they would not comitt to any time frame, just the standard " it normaly takes 2 years to process a CPV" not alot of help. Dave
  13. Blimey!!! not been on here for a while but the tax issue is a massive mine field!!! We at the moment are sat waiting for our 103 to reach the top of the LONG list. Been on the list since Sep 07 only 6000+ to go Hmm. But we are living over in OZ for 7/8 months of there summer and going back to UK for UK summer. I have a bank account, car and my own cabin on the southern peninsular, so we have somewhere we can call home in OZ. But horrified that I might be taxed on any money I make when I sell my house in UK and who decides how much you have made???? Very confusing.
  14. Thank's Gill, do you think the new Government is likley to change their tune next year and up the quota again, it's very frustrating all the same. Rgds Dave
