  1. I've Never had an issue. The boys at work call me Pom Pom and that's about it, but then I am a female in the building industry and a Pom to boot, which freaks the boys out sometimes
  2. I don't know why it wouldn't be in the top 300, from what I understand it's a great place to be. I don't personally have much experience with the place but my boss lives there and loves it. He has an 11 year old just about to start school there and he is quite impressed with the programs on offer. He could quite easily afford to send her to private school but has chosen public. From what I understand it's mainly Aussie but as any area a good mix of other nationalities. I live in point cook which is a new area similar to Caroline springs and we have lots of young families so I would guess Caroline springs does too

    Childcare

We pay $94 a day and also get the rebate. We are in point cook and the waiting lists are horrendous. We were on the waiting list for 7 months before we got a place. We were on the waiting list a 6 centers. We were lucky that we got the one we wanted
  4. BGC!! It's unusual for someone to recognise the name on the easy coast?!?
  5. The thought of Snakes and spiders really freaked me out before we moved here so can understand the question. Since being in pc, I have seen a couple of white tales and plenty of ants but not much else. In fact for the 6 years we have been here I have never seem a snake. I am lucky however, my husband is a pest controller. I have a very active and outdoorsy 2 year old. I don't give it a second thought when he is in the back yard.
  6. I live in point cook and before any rebate is deducted the daycare rate where my son goes is $94 a day. Just a tip, get your child's name down now. There is massive waiting lists on child care in point cook. I know at mine there is over a 6 month waiting list for both the baby and toddler rooms and I know that most others are similar even for a couple of days.
  7. I work in building materials supplying fibre cement and plaster board. We supply to major residential and commercial buildings. Don't get me wrong things are still tough out there and we have builders are are struggling but also those who are doing well. Multi residential seems to be the growth area at the moment along with government projects
  8. I work in the building industry. I can't comment on your specific role but we had our best sales month in over a year in may! We have been really down over the last 18 months but hopefully it's a sign of things to come
  9. For me it was walking through the customs gates at Manchester and leaving my dad at the other side! It's one of the hardest things I have ever done but 6 years and a baby later, I'm still here and happy with a very different but exciting life. Good luck x
  10. I have a 21 month old and I will be brutally honest!! Without family it's tough especially if things font go according to plan. I miss my family so much and sometimes feel very guilty that he will not know his grandparents. On the positive side, we have a good life and there is plenty for us to do as a family. Making friends will take time but you'll get there. My friends have become my family and just today one if my friends popped in with her 8 year old daughter and watching her Andy son together was so wonderful. Where in Melbourne are you thinking of?
  11. I work in Altona and yes there us a lot of heavy industry but on the outskirts and to be honest it's not that bad. Once you are in the centre of Altona or down near the beach you wouldn't know it's there. There are some dodgy areas as there are every where and i agree with an earlier post, the westona end, i would stay away from as that is where the industrual part is. There are some good cafes, restaurants and bars popping up in the centre which is close to the beach. It's not the nicest beach we have in Melbourne but its ok and a nice retreat for me on my lunch break. I live in point cook and often drive through Altona Meadows and sea brook on my way home, they're not bad either.
  12. I would think that anywhere in the se suburbs is a big commute to the airport. As much as I like the east my heart and home is in the west. I know that a lot of people don't like the west but I love it. We live in point cook and my husband and I fought like cat and dog before we moved here. I wanted to stay inner city and he wanted to move out. He won!! I had my first son Here and having no family is tough when you start your own but with support of friends I met through poms I have had people to turn to. I am in marketing in the building industry so the west works well for me but if you're in FMCG you will probably end up in the city. Transport links are not great from here but hopefully the new station a Williams landing will help. Driving on a good day is 30 mins and on a bad day can be an hour at best. Train is about 30 mins to the city. To the airport from here is 30 mins and not too bad in rush hour ( someone correct me if I'm wrong) I love point cook for the young families vibe. Good parks and facilities for kids but also a few decent restaurants for date nights! Feel free to ask if you want more info
  13. I live in point cook and travel to south Melbourne regularly for meetings. If a meeting is at 9, I leave at 8 and usually get there sometime between 8.30 and 9am. If the traffic is good, you're looking at 30-40 mins. If its a bad day and hour or so. There is a new train station being built at Williams landing, across the freeway from pc, so that might be an option. We used to live closer to the city but you will struggle to get much closer to the city for the budget you have.
  14. It is different than the uk. You can go to any doctor you choose when ever you like. You could go to a different practice each week if you felt like it!! I live in pc and we initially went to the super clinic in the town centre as it was convenient and they have a bunch of uk doctors, however they can fill up quickly and be difficult to get spots. When my son was born and needed a gp we started going to Pinnacle which is on Sneydes near the brook, just found the docs better with him. You also pay for doctors here unless they bulk bill so look out for that!
  15. To be honest, the reason, I don't know much about Bacchus marsh is that it is too far out for me. Yell if you need any further help x
