    Why did you take citizenship....?

wow - that is expensive...... Didn't think the British government would rip off it's citizens by that amount.

    Why did you take citizenship....?

How much does a British or Australian passport cost? I have read loads of comments about Brits not getting an Aussie passport or not renewing a passport due to cost. Are the Brits tight with money or not very well off?

    Applying for child visa

Hi there. We were in the same boat as you. Got our visa's (175 using an agent) and validated them then baby number 2 came. We did the child visa application ourselves and like you said saved a good few pounds. The process is very straightforward. You get a checklist when you download the application form so it tell's you exactly what to send off. We got a reply within a week via email from our case officer informing us to have medical done for the child and police check done for ourselves. She said the application would take 6 months and it did to the day. We sent our application to the London office. Good luck.

Wanted Down Under - New Series on TV Jan 2012

wow --- I think you are being very harsh. The Scottish family did not moan at all. I could understand them perfectly and I'm not Scottish. They were a lovely family and best of luck to them.

  7. Hi all, Just wondering if anyone has applied for a child visa through London embassy. If so, as it is paper based - do the London embassy sent you an email to confirm receipt of the application and is there a transaction reference number so you can track or view the application online. Thanks. downunder

    Cost of living / Salaries

Well, I'm in Ireland and the current exchange rate is 1.34 for Euro. So at current exchange rates $50k is equal Euro 37,300, which is an okay salary in Ireland. Plus I've been to Australia and it's no more expensive than Ireland. What is the national average salary in Aus?

    Cost of living / Salaries

Hi There, Been reading some thread's about salaries in Australia. The general impression I get is that most people seem to think it is unrealistic to live on anything below $150000 (for a family of 4, as an example). Is there anyone here on a salary of say $50000 and surviving? What type of occupations have these people who are earning $150k plus (one person's income not two)?
  13. Hi there, Myself, my wife and child (will be one at the time of travel) are going to Sydney for 3 weeks in March. We are looking to stay in Central Coast area (Avoca etc). Do anyone knowof any good sites where you can get a house or apartment rental for 3 weeks? We have seen holiday apartments online with nightly prices of $100. Is this the average price we should expect to pay or can we do better? regards, downunder

Should DIAC cut visa numbers for UK?

I just can't figure out the Brits. What was so wrong with the UK in the first place that made you want to leave? Then after a couple of months the amount of Brits that want to go home. I know the expense is on the individual and it costs the Australian government nothing, it actually generates more tax dollars for Austrlaia but really I do not think the British (in general) are suited for emigration. Time wasters for everyone else in the DIAC waiting list.
