  1. Hi there, thanks for organising - we'll be there - that's a great BBQ area :-)
  2. S&Z removals 0405 140 348 - 3 guys & a truck for $150 an hour, like you we were moving in the same suburb and they showed up 5 mins early, worked like machines even taking turns to stop for the tea I made for them! Out, moved & unloaded at the new place in 3 hours, we had boxed everything ready ourselves though.
  3. Congratulations & have a great day Marcus, we'll have to meet up soon....
  4. Mooseheads, You boys are a bad influence! Unfortunately we didn't get back into Canberra until late so couldn't make it, sure there'll be another opportunity soon though...
  5. Hi there, It'll be difficult to find a rental from overseas as you have to view a place before you can apply for it, you can have a representative view it for you though so while your boss could do it, I don't know if I'd like somebody else to choose my home for me. I can't comment on churches sorry but the best public transport from Sydney Airport would be Murrays Coaches at around $30 each, we have a few Kmarts, BigW's & Target and also a Costco & plenty of others so no shopping problems - I don't know what to say about prices though, seem ok to me.
  6. Count us in Marcus, Tidbinbilla worked well - for a change though we could head your way if you like.
  7. Hienz Barbers at Cook shops - $20, he works on his own so can get busy though.

    Car questions?.

Hi there, you will need an address to buy a car (at least from a dealer) could you use your friends address? - if so register for Medicare with that & they will give you a printout which is good enough to use as evidence of address. If the car has Rego (in NSW say) then you have 3 months to change it after arriving in the ACT. http://www.rego.act.gov.au/registrations/regomain.htm http://www.rta.nsw.gov.au/registration/index.html
  9. Be careful if you are going to flash your lights warning others though - it is illegal (as in the UK actually) & the police will sometimes set up a speedtrap with one car and then have another un-marked one looking out for & booking well meaning motorists. I also got a ticket on our 3rd day in Canberra, paid the fine on-line but attached an email apologising/explaining new in country/previous clear record etc & was cautioned instead - definately worth a go, Best advice though is use cruise control set at the speed limit as much as you can, the red light cameras are also speed cameras to make sure you don't speed up to slip through on amber, they take a picture about 1/8th of a second after the lights turn red - if your in it - even just over the line & stopped you'll get a ticket (thats what I got booked for - $300 + 3 demerits)
  10. The Ford Focus price is advertised on TV so that ones right too, its definately worth buying a new car over second hand if you can afford it - the warranty period gives you worry free motoring while you get settled & find a garage you trust for afterwards.
  11. you could just buy a new cable, about 9 dollars from WOW or Dick Smith.
  12. Was going to try to be witty, but truth is we can't wait to see u!!! looking forward to it!
  13. We will be there, past few years have been great http://www.1047.com.au/pages/page106.asp
  14. A real estate agent friend of ours (if thats possible) told us around 10% - why they don't just make that the price though is beyond me...
  15. Rents are slightly higher at this time of year & also there is much more competition for the good places - some then offer more to secure the place & the agents then try to get you into a bidding war, we moved last June & managed to get to choose between 2 homes & haggled the rent down slightly. Will your current landlords wait until March/April as you may find things easier then?
  16. Then we got thinking.... when we used to go camping in the UK the tent would always get hot and stuffy in the sunshine, imagine what it would be like in the height of summer in Australia! So we're going to wait a while longer.... The tent is just your bedroom you'll be outside the rest of the time, you can buy a sheet & pole set that will make a canopy to shade the tent which seems fairly popular with a lot of campers though. For the flies try this :- http://www.crystalclearwater.com.au/product/NB-C026 it looks expensive but it works very well & our jar still has a little left after nearly 2 years as you only need to put a little on. Most campsites will want you to book a full week if you try now but if you just show up or phone ahead the day before most will find a space for you, if your using the free or budget ones out of the Camps5 book then my advice is to book into a site with a pool/hot showers etc after 3 or 4 days to scrub & freshen up as the cheap sites tend to be very dusty. Camping is excellent here though - you meet some great people, see some awesome sights & the weather doesn't let you down like in the UK (touch wood but we've been ok so far)
  17. Its more to protect from lightning during a storm - my computer in work got fried last week, happens in the UK too.
  18. This will sort you out, went along last year & thought it was an excellent evening. Copied & pasted from the-riotact. Carols by Candlelight has been bringing the joy of Christmas to Canberran families for more than six decades, and Woden Valley Youth Choir would like to invite you and your family to share in the spirit of Christmas at Commonwealth Park on 14 December. Ian McLean will again host the event, and Woden Valley Youth Choir will be leading the singing of carols accompanied by the Canberra City Band. This year’s guest artists will include Peter Cousens and Rachael Thoms. To help you join in, carol sheets and candles will be available for a gold coin donation, with all proceeds going to this year’s sponsored charity, Autism Asperger ACT. So, bring your family, friends and a picnic dinner, and join thousands of others for an inspiring evening of music and celebration, as you sing along to your favourite Christmas carols in the beautiful surroundings of Commonwealth Park. When: WED 14 Dec 2011, 7:00pm-9:30pm Where: Stage 88, Commonwealth Park, Civic, ACT Australia 2601 Cost : FREE Phone: 0402 050 852 E-mail: publicity@wvyc.org.au For more info: please visit the official website at www.facebook.com/67thCarolsByCandlelight.2011
  19. Had a reasonable turnout & the weather did put on a bit of show for us which was fun until the lightning struck a bit too close for comfort, will have to try again another time.
  20. Will definitely be there if a little late - around 4 ish, looking forward to it
  21. If your working in Belconnen then Bruce, Macquarie, Weetangera or Florey are an easy commute by bus, walk or cycle which will save you needing 2 cars & still plenty of space for dog walking etc.
  22. Florey to the ANU/CSIRO is 15-20 minutes drive, ACTION are tweaking the Blue Rapid bus next year to run to Kippax along Southern Cross Drive which will save having to change in Belco.
  23. Had a nice afternoon at Yarralumla Bay today & thought it would be a great place to have the next meet up, no Bbqs unfortunately so a picnic will have to do - will take our kayaks along so will be easy to spot. Sunday 11/12/11 at 1 o'clock if anyone's up for it.
  24. We'll be there, love a cheeky pint on a Sunday afternoon.
  25. Congratulations Marcus - look forward to meeting him at the next meet up.
