  1. Hi there Having only emigrated as as family to Australia just over 2 years ago, our 21 year old son is still looking for a trade apprenticeship in South Australia. He was still in full time education in the UK when we left, and has been at TAFE on various trade Cert 2s since we arrived, as he has applied to at least 70 employers and got nothing. Rather than doss around at home, he went back to TAFE. One employer even wanted him to work for him for nothing for at least 6 months to prove he was suitable for an apprenticeship. When my son politely refused, the guy raged at him that "just like the young ones of today-you do not want to work!! " With little or no employment to speak of, how does one tailor a resume to fit this situation? He did some vacation work and was a volunteer with the Red Cross at a hospital for several years but how does that fit in with apprentice applications?

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

HI Yes my RMA is an Australian registered migration agent. Thanks.

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

Hi all Having taken further advice, through no fault of my own, I am now in a situation that may result in my RSMS visa being cancelled as it looks as though the job contract I have does not match up to the ASCO designation of my visa. For the time being I will still keep working for this employer and pray that DIAC does not investigate this employer in the future.

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

Hi there Thank you for your reply. I am still terrified of having my visa revoked, and I do not know what to do for the best. I am working shifts, so I will try to phone the Migration lawyer as soon as I can.

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

Hi there I am rapidly reaching the point of no return here in Queensland. I am here on 119 visa, for which the job I have a contract for, does not exist, and I working for the employer as an Assistant in Nursing, although my contract says Medical Administrator. I am supposed to work 38 hours per week, my first full week's pay was 28 hours only, as these are my allocated working shifts that I have been given. My next 2 weeks shifts once again does not give me more than 30 hours work per week. The employers welcome package amounts to living in condemned accommodation for which I am expected to pay $350 per week out of $556 wages, but they want me out as soon as possible. I only arrived 24 May but I am sick to to my stomach going to work every day, my RMA tells me to just to stick with it, and implys that my employer will have my visa revoked if I complain. I only have a pay as you go mobile phone, so I have e-mailed 2 migration lawyers who have not answered my e-mails. What can I do?

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

Hi Thanks for your interest. My Migration agent found me the job through a recruitment agency associated with them (his wifes). No - I have never worked for them before. I am terrified I am caught up in some legal scam, and although I have e-mailed 2 migration lawyers in Australia- nobody has got back to me yet. I do not want to return to the UK but I can see the only loser in this situation would be me and my family. As I got my job with an age exemption, my Migration agent tells me the employer is doing me a favour by employing me and just to stick it out. The welcome package from the employer does not amount to anything other than charging a large rent for a dilapidated sparsely furnished house which has been condemned for demolition, which he wants me out of as soon as possible. I am freaking out and in a very nervous state.

    RSMS 119 & Employer Nightmare

Does anyone know of someone who could offer me advice about my visa and problems with my employer? I only started work yesterday and it is a nightmare already, I was brought out to work as Medical Administrator and there is no job for that and my employer would not let me start for 8 weeks despite insisting I get here ASAP, I am now working as Assistant in Nursing instead, which is pretty heavy going. My MIA just says suck it up as I got my visa with an age exemption, and that I should stick out my 2 years, they tell me the pay will be the same, not yet had any pay yet, only just started the job. Is there anything I can do? I am desperate!

    Driving Licence

Thanks for your good wishes. I understand that I can drive for up to 3 months on a PR visa, I thought I would change it while I had time before I started work. I was trying to change it for an SA licence. Trouble is, I do not have my Medicare card yet, and I am not going to book an appt until I have.

    Driving Licence

Recently arrived in South Australi as successful applicant for RSMS 119 visa (Hurrah) and went to exchange my UK driving licence for SA licence. I had a nasty shock! I have been deaf since childhood, passed my driving test 33 years ago at age 20 and have been driving ever since. I declared being deaf & hearing aid wearer to DVLA & insurance company and had comprehensive insurance- no problem. But in Australia because I am deaf and wear a hearing aid, I have to pay to undergo medical before I can even apply for a SA driving licence. You have to declare deafness on the licence application form or it makes your licence and insurance invalid. Now I am unable to change over my licence until I do this. I was absolutely steaming! My husband says I am overreacting but in the UK this would be seem as discrimination! It really upset me, I passed the migration medical as the main applicant and now I can't even change my driving licence!

    Visa Label query

Hi there Pumpkin Well i got in touch with my MIA, who bless his cotton socks, contacted the CO. Today I got a reply back, the CO admits to making a data input error, which is now corrected. So I am now very relieved. Thanks for your kind advice and for everyone else who contributed. PIO rocks!

    Visa Label query

Hello there My apologies if I have offended anyone, that was not my intention. I am interested in any advice anyone could give, I just thought that perhaps only MIAs would be able answer my query. I did look but I could not see anyone else with a similar problem after doing a search on this forum. Thank you.

    Visa Label query

Hello again Are there any knowledgeable MIAs out there who may know the answer to this problem? I e-mailed the High Commission in London about the visa label query and they tell me despite my grant letter saying we have to be in Australia before 28 May 11, the visa label still says 17 Feb 11 and that is correct. They tell me to go back to the CO because the 17 Feb 11 may relate to police or medical check dates (which I don't think it does) . We only have just over 2 weeks before we fly on 17 Mar 11. My CO only ever worked part time, do I still go through my MIA, I would have thought we would not be clients anymore since the visa was granted? The Co has previously refused to talk to me before as I had a MIA. I am ready to scream!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Baggage question?

Hi again I am trying to keep the questions to the minimum but they do seem to crop up anyway, hopefully someone may know the answer to this question. I am starting work for my RSMS visa by the end of Mar 11, and I have booked our flights for 17 Mar 11 -Heathrow to Adelaide with Qantas by phone. However when I asked about baggage allowance as we are emigrating and have not yet validated our visa, I was told on the phone by Qantas that we are only entitled to the normal 23Kgs. The girl I spoke to told me that I was not entitled to extra baggage, even though we have not yet validated our visa, unless we bought the very expensive Emigration flights for ourselves, although I had told her we were emigrating. Now I did e-mail Qantas Customer Service last week but so far they have not responded to my e-mail, recently it has been taking me 20+ minutes hanging on to get through to them each time I ring their customer sales number. Does anyone know if what I was told about the baggage allowance is correct and if so how do I get this in writing if they will not reply to my e-mail?

    Visa Label query

Hi there I wonder if anyone knows the answer to this one. I was recently granted my RSMS 119 Visa on 16 Feb 11-initial date of entry no later than 28 May 11 . I went to the Australian High Commission in London on 21 Feb 11 along with the grant letter to have the Visa label put in our UK passports. However the label actually says "Initial Entry by 17 Feb 11" although it goes on to say "Must not arrive after 16 Feb 16". Now I am confused, it seems to be to read that I have to have entered Australia by 17 Feb 11, should it not say 28 May 11- the date in my grant letter? I do not want to arrive in Australia on 19 Mar 11 and find that I should have been here by 17 Feb 11 as it says in the passports and have to argue the situation with immigration?
