  1. Hi from visa application going in it took about 7 months, it was granted 1st July 2009 we went straight away to validate it. But we are now waiting for our sons visa as he was born in Sept 2010 and it will take 5-7 months We had the house up for sale Feb last yr but with pregnancy and other things going on we thought moving to the other side of the world would be too much. But the house went back up for sale this week and it's lets get this show on the road! I'm on maternity leave at the moment and will go back to work for a little while (social services). Hope it goes well for you.
  2. Hi I'm an OT moving as soon as possible when the house is sold, I had to get registered with the COTRB to enable me to work as an OT when we get there. The process is fairly easy. We has a 176 visa my husband was the main visa applicant.

    Validating visa, help!!!

Hi When we went last yr we didn't go to Australia House but when we were in Oz we were told it was done automatically / electronically but a day before we left Oz we went to the Imigration office in Brisbane and got a sticker put in the passport which details the visa entitlements gave us peace of mind! Hope you have a good time!
  4. Oh ment to say Victoria where we are heading didn't have any extra boards/OT agencies to join/pass but may be different in different states but the COTRB site can help with that. Ruth.
  5. Hi I've reg'd with the COTRB no English test required as qualified & born in UK. It's quite straight forward to register, you need a solicitor to stamp copies of your doc's & references and get a cheque in Oz dollers. (my bank charged me for the pleasure!!!). We have the house up for sale at the mow then we're off when we can, hopefully near Geelong! (I'm pregnant baby due in Sept so that may affect when we can go as well!).
  6. Thanks Rachael, I think that is what hubby is thinking I'm conserned if we don't sell the house in time but I suppose only time will tell! and if not we go out soon after. Can I ask if you were working and what you did re mat leave & pay? The earliest I can take it is beginning of July but entitled to 39wks stat mat pay. Not sure if it ends when I leave the uk? or when I hand my notice in? Oh how was the flight? Thanks Ruth
  7. Thank you both! We're heading to Victoria, Geelong area. At least I know I can start the immunizations here if need be. I know it's for the best but the thought of extra jabs OOhh! She's had chicken pox so that will be one less. Cheers again Ruth
  8. Hi just wondering if anyone can advise? We had our 176 visa granted last yr & have been and endorsed it. We are planning to get the house on the market in the next wk or so. Our daughter will be 3 in July & I'm pregnant (due in Sept).:jiggy: I was wondering how long would it take to get baby A a visa and approx how much it costs and if we start the immunizations for him/her will it match up with the jabs in Oz? Here they have several jabs for the same disease over a period of time. Also hubby has mentioned about going over before he/she arrives any suggestions? :spinny: Cheers Ruth (not much to do this yr then!)

Will I be able to work?

Hi Lisa, For some reason I couldn't get back into Pomsinoz the screen kept freezing! I know what you mean not much info out there the other threads on here where Qualified Occupational Therapist without post grad experience and Student occupational therapist. I think there are a couple of others who are already working there and might have a bit more experience of working in Ot in Oz especially a yr on. Our service is changing yet again and in theory I'll be moving into reablement but that was due to happen in Sept 09, some are moving in March but I've got to wait, but will be off on Mat leave before then I reckon. I did work in the NHS for about 5 yrs then SS for a couple and went to the local Uni to teach OT for a yr but missed the patients too much and went back to SS. We have our reservations at times but figure if we don't like it we'll move back and yes it will have cost us but we'll have gained an experience or two along the way. Still scary though. Will be good to see if we can find out a bit more. Take care Ruth

Hi Lisa, We're not there yet plan to go next yr. We had our visa granted on 1st July 09 and spent 3 wks over there in Aug 09. We expecting baby no 2 in Sept so will be selling the house etc this yr all being well. We are planning to settle in Victora about an hr or so away from Melbourne. We visited Melbourne Geelong, Sydney and near Brisban. Loved it all. Have you been before? I've regestered with the COTRB which was straight forward enoungh. I've been an OT since 97 currently in SS. What about you? There was a couple of other threads on here about OT. I must admit I haven't been on here for a while. Take care Ruth.

Oh did they take the pull along case on board as hand luggage? Silly question I know! It makes you wonder what migrants actually knew 10-20 years ago when they arrived or where in the process of moving. We found all the expat websites fantastic 3/4 years ago when we where planning the move, but now you can find pretty much everything you need to know to prepare yourself. I know what you mean we don't know we are born! How old do I sound saying that! Ruth x

Thanks! Was just on Argos site looking at a Peppa Pig ruck sack to fill with goodies to keep her/us going. We have a 2hr stop at Dubia after 7 hrs, we decided to fly from Birmingham as it is just up the road & flying with Emirates. I'm just so glad we found PIO as it makes everything so much easier and reassuring knowing that there are others out there - been there done & doing that! Cheers again Ruth x

Hi Great info, We are heading out to Melbourne on the 30th July for our reccie and visa validation trip. Not looking forward to the flight with a 2 yr old! We only got the visa on the 1st July so it's been a bit of a wurl wind since then. Planning on staying in Melbourne for 1 wk then Geelong for the 2nd mind you thats subject to change the only thing that is booked are the flights. Hopefully accommodatation to be booked later. Then this weekend is our daughters 2nd birthday party! why did I think it was a good idea to invite 15 children to our house!!!! So just got to stay away from anyone with flu symptoms till then, not that I'm worring about anything !!!Just everything!!! Fingers crossed for the house sale. Ruth

    Validating visa, help!!!

Cheers Now I think I might be very stupid, very tired or a bit of both! I've just copied this from the visa letter! Evidence of your visa It is recommended that all visa holders obtain evidence of their visa in their current passport. They can have evidence of their visa placed into their passport at any of the department’s offshore offices with visa evidencing facilities. Details of addresses and opening times for these overseas offices can be found at - Contact Us Please note that a copy of this letter is sufficient for visa evidencing purposes. IMPORTANT - Visa holders should allow at least five working days after presenting their passport to a departmental office for the evidencing process to be completed. So is the letter sufficient to take with us on the trip or sufficient to take to Australia house? Reason I ask is we hope to go the bginging of Aug 09 but since most weekend until then are planned/booked with other stuff and we are in Coventry, it may prove difficult to do it 5 days before the trip. Ruth (starting to panic about everything!)
