  1. So sorry it hasn't worked out for you all and wishing you all the best on your return! Can I ask why your returning as not been on Poms for a bit but came across your thread and remembered you from a few years ago. We've all settled in quite well in Helensvale,Queensland and have been here just over two years now. We went back to Derby for two weeks in July this year(miserable weather whilst there!) visiting LA and NYC en-route and as nice as it was seeing family, friends and shopping(so-cheap) couldn't wait to get back on that plane to Aus and some Sun!! Again good luck and at least you can say you tried but wasn't for you....x
  2. Forgot to attach these of Ferra Eng!! Good Luck.... http://www.boeing.com/aboutus/supplier_of_the_year/soy2011_gallery.html http://www.defence.gov.au/dmo/Newsitems/17May12_Minister_visits_Brisbane.cfm
  3. Hi Dangreen and Heywood Monkey!! Guess what I,m a CNC miller and have worked at Ferra(Brisbane) since I came over from Derby, Uk nearly two years ago with my family(2-boys,10 and 17) I came over as a first class metal machinist(176-visa) with no job and went round cold calling after being here a few days and got offered three jobs at BDGT, Eastall Eng and Ferra and because like yourself I worked at a company in Derby that did Rolls Royce sub-contract work thought the Ferra option the best option. Sure Ferras got itself a bit of a reputation in the past as a hire/fire place but we just can,t get any decent qualified machinist at present but I feel the place has turned the corner now and our client base is mainly export to Lockheed Martin(JSF-F35 parts) and Boeing commercial(spares for 737,747,757,767) and also the Australian airforce(black hawk helicopters) I love the work, really interesting and also guess what its full of Poms, some Indians,NZ,phlippines,South Africans and even some locals!! The atmosphere is really upbeat and happy at the moment as we,ve just won Boeing International supplier of the Year(2011) which itself is no-mean fete and one we are all very proud of!!. Ourselves have settled in great as we live in Helensvale on the Gold Coast and the downside is I travel 130km(80miles!) round trip a day to and from work but what few CNC jobs that are available down here pay approx $5 less an hour and aren't Aerospace. SurfersParadise and Broadwater are 15mins down the road and theres all the Theme parks round here aswell for our kids(Wet,n,Wild,Movie World,Dream World and Sea World) Missed family and friends for the first few months but then started to really enjoy everything that Aus has got to offer. If your prepared to work hard the rewards are great I,ve found here!! If anyone on this thread wants any advice feel free to PM me with your Questions and good luck Dangreen and Nollie in your pursuits.....
  4. Still enjoy watching the shows even though we've been 'down-under' for 17-months now on the Gold-Coast and have really settled in to the Aussie way of life after the initial first couple of months!! Just wondered if anyone knows where abouts 'the Cliffs' from Leeds settled down in the end and if there on PIO? Thought they were a really nice family and I want to buy him a beer!! LOL...
  5. Hi Dougans, glad to see you,ve come back to Aus! Hope everythings going O.K and your settled now. Yes you can watch 'Wanted Down Under' in Aus, we download it from either UKnova or Piratebay onto the computer, transfer it to a portable harddrive then watch it on the T.V through a Western Digital 'media player box' which to be hoest has been a life-saver when it comes to watchin the box as you know Aus T.V is'nt the best in the world!! Hope this helps and let us know how you go on if you go down this route, cheers,Dave,Debs and the boys...

  8. Hi all, another reason to come to Helensvale especially if your children are in to sports is the success stories of the last couple of weeks of a couple of former pupils who went to the Helensvale High School and represented Australia in there respective sports! This Monday(21st Sept) they are having a parade on the Gold Coast for Sammy Stosur such is her popularity over here.! Here are some of there sucesses.... http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/09/12/348681_gold-coast-lead-story.html http://www.goldcoast.com.au/article/2011/09/05/346591_gold-coast-news.html
  9. Ay Up! We have been living on the Gold Coast just over a year now........very happy here too! Between us we lived in Breadsall, Chester Green, Alvaston, Wilmorton, Mickleover, Darley Abbey, Allestree. Happy in all those places but even happier to be living on The Gold Coast

  13. Hi Deb Our eldest plays soccer 2 evenings a week, weekends he prob stays at a friends to watch Sport on TV all night  rest of the week he is mainly at home .......tinternetting etc!! The Primary School is lovely Theo settled there straight away as did Will at the High School  debsx
  14. Hi Giggle! We to live in Helensvale and have been here for exactly a year today. We absolutely love the place having come from Derby in the Midlands and have two boys 17 and 10 who both go to the local primary and state schools here in Helensvale which are great as they have both settled in well and made some good friends. With Helensvale being so close to the beaches, motorway(I work up in South Brisbane) and Theme parks its ideal as theres always somewhere to go at weekends. We,ve had our ups and downs in the earlier months overhere but now is feeling more like home now. A word of warning though we looked at about 15 rentals in Helensvale and found about half of them pretty messy, untidy not what we expected though which really surprised us!! We stayed in a short-term accomadation(3-weeks,4-bed) in Upper-Coomera when we came to basically get set up i.e house rentals, cars, jobs which was just the right time needed. Let us know if you decide to settle here and any advice on Helensvale feel free to PM us,cheers,Dave,Debs,Will and Theo..
  15. Hi everyone and Sh7t-Man!!! We,ve been in Helensvale on the Gold Coast now for nearly 6-months now and we,re all starting to really embrace everything Aus has to offer us Poms! Especially the weather(34-degs on car temp gauge at 5pm!!! whilst visiting Hungry Jacks)and that was on a slightly overcast day too!! But must admit the weather has been very mixed espeically with all the storms we,ve been having in and around Brissie of late.I work just south of Brisbane and commute 130-k round trip during the week leaving here at 5am and go through some amazing weather fronts on the M1-motorway(one minute bone dry, next minute almost cyclonic, then back to bone-dry!!!) But I would,nt swop Helensvale for Derby(UK) in a million years and wished me and my family had come over years ago!! Cheers everyone!,(Dave 45,Debs 44,Will 17 and Theo 9)
  16. Hi there!! Are you the guy who stands in 'The'Beach' end with your black pompey shirt on?? My son Will says he spoke to you at a recent game there,we're Derby County fans and living in Helensvale! Hope they raise a lot for the flood victims at tonights game. Will,my partner Debs and me went to help out at St Lucia last week and it was horrendous!! Anyway 'Up the Gold Coast' and enjoy the game, cheers,Dave.
