  1. Hi guys, I know there are some threads here around this but i would like to know what happens to your super when you relocate back to the UK. I am 35 and have lived in Australia for 7 years as a permanent resident and are looking at returing to the UK but will probably obtain citizenship soon (in case we decide to come back in the future). From what I've read I can't access the super until i reach 60 years old. If the money is just sitting there and im not paying into it, will there be taxes and fees being taken off it until i can access it or does it just sit there? Thanks Danny
  2. Hi everybody, Sorry if this was covered elsewhere. As much as we love living in Australia (been here 5 years) we have our reasons for moving back to the UK. This wouldnt happen however for at least another 3-5 years but I'd like to at least be as prepared as i can for the mountain of costs that face us. We came over with next to nothing and gradually bought everything we need, however if going back I would like to have everything I have now without having to 'start from scratch'. My question is, is it possible to ship furniture, household goods AND our car in the same container? surely its possible to hirer a bigger container and put everything in the same container? If so, how much more would it then cost me to ship my car as well? It would probably be cheaper to sell the car and buy another one once back in the UK? but id rather pay a bit extra and avoid this hassle. any help/shipping stories appreciated, also recomended shipping companies Cheers Danny
  3. We are busy the next 2 weekends so sometime after that. Can arrange something at our house or meet out somewhere?
  4. Hi blairandkelly, Yes we should organise an afternoon/evening for BBQ and drinks. @Tink85 Would you be interested too? Maybe in a couple of weeks? Danny
  5. Yes we made it to Townsville! After our car broke down in the outback! But that's another story. We had only been to Townsville once before for 2 days and thought it was nice. Now we are here we no longer think its nice, we think it's beautiful We are staying at the oaks on palmer street while we look for a house. Palmer street is awesome for food and drinks and flinders street is across the water if you want more pubs. The strand is very nice, great place to take the kids and have a BBQ. We just found a house in Douglas and will move in in a weeks time. It's a beautiful area and close to the river and riverway (free outdoor swimming lagoon). Is this your first time in Australia? Don't think you'll be disappointed! Where are you from in UK? Danny
  6. Hi Im not particularly looking for brits but if its anything like Toowoomba, the aussies are friendly but very clicky. Im sure we'll meet friends eventually but wanted to be a bit proactive and expats obviously have something in common. We flew up to Townsville for a reccie in september and had a look round. The strand is very nice and we drove round a few suburbs. The nicest houses weve seen online are all a fair way out. We're looking forward to exploring the surrounding country as well as the city itself. Danny
  7. Hi there, Thats cool, what are you guys doing there? workwise i mean, did you just move to Australia last December or Townsville from somewhere else? We will arrive in Townsville in early January Danny & Sabine
  8. Hi everyone, My fiancée and I have been living in Toowoomba for the past 3 years as I've been studying electrical engineering at university. Despite being at uni and being here for three years we haven't built up a huge circle of friends. I start my new job with ergon energy in feb in townsville and we are hoping we can meet some people once there. I am 31 and from lincolnshire and my fiancee is 29 from Bavaria, Germany. Are there any other couples out there that would like to meet up next year for drinks/barbie?? Hope so! Is there a big English community in Townsville? Looking forward to hearing from you Danny & Sabine
