1. Hi, I haven't posted on this site for quite a while now as we have been quite busy settling in. We've been here two years now and absolutely love it so good luck to you all out there on your varying stages of your journey over here. Anyway, my husband is a partner in a well regarded Bricklaying gang and they require an additional Brickie to join them in the next few weeks. We know how daunting it is to come over here with no immediate job so we are giving someone a start. If you are a decent Brickie and you want to come and get your foot on the ladder then please email me. Please ensure that as soon as you get here, obtain your ABN and a you should have a White Card. Thanks, Nora
  2. Hi there, Cannot speak for your law degree but we have been here 5 weeks, me my husband and 3 girls. There is work here albeit they slow down coming up to Christmas so tradies will need to budget for that in the year. My other half does have work and luckily have found a job that pays brilliantly. No guarantees that it will last though so it's a case of proving yourself to be reliable, produce great work and having your own kit helps too. Working with a gang pays less I have been told. You have to get yourself out there and chat to people, go up to people building and ask them. Save up for the kit here too, it's very expensive my husband says the bell cement mixers here are double what they are in the UK but we didn't bring ours as we thought it wouldn't get through customs. So brickies put aside a couple of thousand ($) for kit I would say to include a trailer if you're not going to get a Ute. Gumtree Perth is big here for everything for sale and jobs, there are always adverts for tradies on there. Also The West Australian is the largest if not only paper here that serves Perth and has jobs in that too. Check it all out online. Brickie rates start at $250 per day and can go up to $350+ depending on who you are working with. and for all of those people that say you can only get by with bringing a bit of money over here -WRONG! For a family of 5 I would say you need to bring over about $30,000 at least if you're starting over. Saying that these are the things to watch out for but Perth is fantastic. Glorious weather, friendly people, beaches close by (we used to live 1.5h away from Bournemouth) and here it's 10 mins. We love it! HTH and good luck with your plans :-)

    Hello

Hello and welcome to the site, I did it myself to save money primarily. It can be done and I think whether you get an agent or go it alone it is a rollercoaster ride because the Government are always moving the goal posts. Be prepared for a challenge! Having said that after 3 yrs (although I don't think this is typical) we had our Visa's granted and are looking to move to Perth in Nov. This site is great and I don't honestly think I could have done it without the advice of people on here, someone always knows the answer to something. A great community as you will discover. Good luck with your plans :-)
  4. JaneUbu - Yes my friend did like Perth so much so that she's is applying for a Visa (her hubby is a Plumber) so she's at the beginning of this journey. I have a Step daughter that will be coming out as well (18) TTAJ - Yes I know how you feel, we are looking in the same area then. I do agree holiday lets just seem way more expensive than when we went to Brisbane but I will carry on looking. You will be fine, just give yourself time to adjust - easier said than done :-)
  5. No we haven't we did our reccie in Brisbane at the end of 2008 but they put our then Visa on hold til 2013 so we applied for the State Sponsorship to Perth. Seen and researched lots regarding Perth and my best friends just come back from there. I'm going in November to look around the schools and register them for the next year. We're the same with jobs but hopefully there will be lots of woek. Is it just the two of you going?

I'm so sorry just read this!! Yes well we sent off the meds and police report via email (scanned copies) and then we were granted the next morning. BUT we had applied a year before then. Things just sped up quickly when the reports were in.

Sorry for the delay in replying.

  7. Hi there, Just jumping on the same topic of an earlier post. Is anyone going to Perth this November? I would love to hear from anyone heading out there, my other half is a Bricklayer and I'm a Beauty Therapist and mum to 3 girls: 8,6 & 3. We're looking at going on the 11th and am finding it difficult to find accommodation in the Kallaroo/Duncraig area. What is everyone else doing with regards to accommodation? We're looking to stay somewhere temporarily (holiday let) until we can find our rental accommodation. Also has anyone ever rented out their house out to the MOD? If so what are your experiences? am thinking this may be a possibility as we have various bases here in Wiltshire and Somerset. I'm flicker between angst and fear that everything will go to plan - so much to do. How are your move plans going? :cute:
  8. Thanks very much Cazz and Bibbs, I'm sure I shall have a million and one questions between now and then. Congratulations to you too on what sounds like you and yours living your dream.
  9. Hi Liz, Thanks for commenting, wow, exciting times ahead for you then!! So close, where are you moving to? Nora

Hi Evian,

Just read your note about startup costs. And the fact that you got your visa so quickly.

Am I reading it right?? You sent it off on the tuesday and got your visa through the next day?

What sort of visa was it?

Did you not have to have medicals and police checks etc?

Thanks

  11. Thank you Saz, that's very kind of you
  12. Ah thanks Ali, that's a good idea to try and squeeze in some visits to different places. I agree, Edinburgh is a gorgeous city. Yes it will be sad but we've got to give it a go.
  13. Hi Peeps, After years of trying to get to Australia, we were finally granted our Visa's on Wed, I sent off the final paperwork Tues eve before netball and woke up Wed morning to get a 'yes' straight away. Totally shocked as I was expecting to wait a couple of months for a decision. I cried with relief as I had done it all on my own without any help. I haven't been on here for ages as I was despondent due to encountering one hurdle after another. BUT we are here and now I have a lot to organise. Any hints and tips about what I should do from here on in would be greatly appreciated. We are looking to move to Perth between Nov and December. I know it's a long way off but I would love to make friends with some of you (not all of you ha ha) and would eventually like to meet up as I think it would be nice. I am a positive friendly person and would like to meet like minded people. I have 3 children and I'm a little afraid to be honest but I shall be alright. I find myself looking around me taking things in a lot more and quietly thinking ..this is the last time that we will be doing this or that... Also I'd like to hear any stories about your last few months here in the UK and how you all fared. Look forward to hearing from you Nora:jiggy:
  14. Thanks very much, we shall be doing some sums in the next few days to see where we are exactly but that was very helpful. Thank you, Steve & Nora
  15. Hi We would love to hear any input as we are near enough in the same predicament. We got our Visa's on Wed, I only sent the paperwrok off Tues evening. Was expecting to wait a couple of months for an answer but got a yes the next day!! Anyway lots to plan.
