    Money transfers hsbc

For those of you who have susbtanial funds and wondering how to transfer them over to Oz as and when required - this information may be of assistance. We specifically opened an HSBC account before leaving the UK as we knew there was a branch in Melbourne. Now I am able to transfer funds IMMEDIATELY ON LINE from the UK to AUS (or other countries). It is a very simple process and BEFORE transmitting you will be given the rate of exchange from Sterling to $ - so you can always cancel if rate not suitable. The funds will go directly into your Australian HSBC account. The only criterea is that you will have to be a premier customer! I am finding this facility extremely useful especially with the fluctuating currency. Hope I have been able to assist

JEAN don't feel so despondant!!! Have you thought about taking the same route that we did and wait out the time in OZ??? With so many things to do here like house hunting, getting to know the areas, etc. etc., the time passes so quickly and before you know it - you get that magic telephone call..... Chin up and you will get there in the end I promise:smile:.

    Parents contributory Visa: progress

We applied for our CPV back in JUNE 2006! Frontloaded our Police Reports but NOT medicals. Moved over to OZ in August 2006 and are playing the waiting game here:daydreaming: Thought we were high and dry and then were asked to re-apply for our Police checks as only valid one year! (Also had to have police checks here)! Sent all documents to the UK - waited almost 40 days and then everything was returned to us as one document was missing (utility bill). Duly returned BUT we had to wait ANOTHER 40 days until the UK police reports arrived. So everyone be aware of this hiccup!!! Now everything is with DIMA ........and we are told should only take another few weeks....BUT WHO KNOWS.....WATCH THIS SPACE:arghh:

is there a way round buying a house without a visa?

JUST A BIT OF ADVICE - YOU MUST OBTAIN PRIOR APPROVAL FROM THE AUSTRALIAN FOREIGN INVESTMENT BOARD TO PURCHASE A PROPERTY. (OURS TOOK ABOUT 1 MONTH). I KNOW THAT BRAND NEW PROPERTIES ARE EASIER TO OBTAIN APPROVAL THAN SECOND HAND HOMES. UNSURE WHETHER OR NOT YOU NEED A VISA - HOPE SOMEONE ELSE CAN ANSWER THAT QUESTION.

    excess baggage.com

We used EXCESS INTERNATIONAL MOVERS (www.overseasremovals.com). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - excellent packers and our goods arrived all in one piece.

    Is Aussie shopping that bad??

FOR THOSE INTERESTED THERE IS AN OUTLET SHOPPING MALL BASED NEXT TO MORRABIN AIRPORT IN MELBOURNE. I HAVE FOUND THIS IS THE NEXT BEST THING TO TK MAXX (WHICH I STILL MISS). HOWEVER IF YOU HAVE TIME TO SHOP AROUND - MOST SUBURBS HAVE SMALL INDIVIDUAL SHOPS THAT SELL A FANTASTIC RANGE OF CLOTHING COVERING ALL PRICE RANGES AND QUALITY. FOR EXAMPLE TODAY I BOUGHT A LONG SLEEVE PATTERNED T-SHIRT AND A FANCY 2-PIECE BEADED TOP WITH CARDIGAN ALL FOR $90. HOPE THIS HELPS
