5 pointsIKNWC, but I'm rather excited. Just booked a rather illustrious Saturday at the start of June at Raffles Singapore. A cold one in the Courtyard, dinner at the Butcher's Block, and then into the Writer's Bar to rest and relax. Only bloody problem is that it'll probably make the rest of my week's holiday feel somewhat rubbish in comparison.

5 pointsI seriously worry about gen z and millenials should they ever have to endure and real hardships. My eldest (19) went camping last weekend (yes in March UK) The Mrs was freaking out that he would freeze to death and telling me to put my foot down and talk him out of it. I shrugged and said "he'll learn" He came back sunday lunchtime looking like Ian Beale when he broke down. I asked him how it went and got a grunt and a "I'm never going camping again" Lesson learned. Of course mum molly coddled him with hot chocolate and hot water bottles...

5 pointsI suspect she's had either a hysterectomy or surgical treatment for a bowel condition like Crohn's disease. And her medical condition should be just as private as any other citizen's if that is her choice.

4 pointsAs Charlie Pickering pointed out on his show, you can tell it's photoshopped because all 3 kids are looking at the camera and have their eyes open. That never happens.

4 pointsIf you are ever in Bangkok, the Mandarin Oriental Hotel has an author's lounge. Graham Greene, James Michener, Noel Coward, Joseph Conrad and even Barbara Cartland were visitors to the hotel. It's a lovely hotel right on the river. I've only ever stayed there one night as it is so expensive but when my brother and family lived in Bangkok we used to go for lunch on the terrace or afternoon tea in the author's lounge. The author's lounge

3 pointsHere is an article from about a year ago (so fairly recent) arguing that even quite low levels of vaccine-induced antibodies give good protection against severe covid, while at the same time not giving much protection against mild covid. That could help to explain some of the things you've mentioned. scholar.google.com will have thousands of papers about covid if you want to delve deeper. https://www.nature.com/articles/s41467-023-37176-7

3 pointsI can't stand salad cream because of the tang. Give me real mayonnaise every time. However you can't buy the real stuff in Australia and you can't get it in a supermarket in the UK either. There's nothing like a cone of crispy hot chips in Amsterdam with a big dollop of fresh mayonnaise.
-
3 pointsHeinz salad cream for me too. All the other stuff is as you say - bland. It's getting harder to get here. Woolies didn't have it the last time I looked but Coles still has it. I use it on my cheese, lettuce and tomato sandwiches.

3 pointsIts a shame the UK isn't in some sort of arrangement like that where its citizens can take an opportunity to live and work in another country. Maybe i could suggest it to them?

3 pointsI have just read all of the OP's comments started years ago and yes, I think you are correct. He/she just mentions grandparents. Until I read those older comments I just assumed there were other family members. That's the problem with having 2 passports. You will always be wondering if the grass is greeener.

3 pointsI've just watched a bit of the South by South West International Women's Day panel including Meghan Markle and Brooke Shields plus a couple of other females discussing issues affecting women and mothers. It was an excruciating load of bollox to listen to. Again, I am feeling my age. Maybe much younger females will be inspired by their discussion.

3 pointsWhy not? It's been well documented that she is a keen photographer. Every keen photographer I've known - and there have been a few in my family - edit photos. Cripes, I've done it with family photos on occasions.

3 pointsTo be fair she's an amateur photographer, she was messing around with photo shop. But yeah it seems to have gotten some folk quite excited.

2 pointsWe used to live round the corner from a chippie in the UK and it did the best curry sauce.

2 pointsThat is an excellent recommendation for getting the flu jab. It has served you well over the years.

2 pointsI do. They failed to mention Aus is only ranked 21st as a trading partner. I've attached the full document they've cherry picked from. australia-trade-and-investment-factsheet-2024-02-22.pdf

2 pointsI totally agree. There are many reasons why a hysterectomy needs to be performed (if that's what it was), and if they'd stated that was why then the rumour mills would have literally lost their grindstones half a mile downstream. Not to mention it's an intensely personal matter and whilst I'm unable relate to that from a female perspective, the last thing I'd want the world to know is that I needed to have my nuts chopped off for some medical reason.

2 points@empire, to be honest, it sounds like you would be happier staying where you are. Cost of living is actually a bit higher in Australia than in the UK. If you're working that doesn't matter because most people earn a higher salary in Australia. But for retired people like your grandparents, or if you struggle to find work, it would be a problem. You say your former house has almost doubled - well, so has every other house in Tassie, so there's your answer to 'how much is a house'. As Toots said, look on realestate.com.au to get an idea

2 pointsApparently the cuff on Charlotte's cardigan was photoshopped and the worlds having a breakdown... You couldn't make it up.. It was probably a baggy cuff or there was a stain... Talk about a drama!!!
