Exactly ! People who apply offshore for contributory visas have to wait offshore for their grants but more and more people are using a visitor visa then getting a bridging visa so effectively “living” in Australia as soon as they land. The increasing cost to the Australian taxpayer with reciprocal care is not sustainable and govt have already mentioned there are too many people on bridging visas already.

It seems to vary tremendously. Some people experience "just a little sniffle", others get absolutely flattened. I'm not sure anyone understands the reason for the difference: some of the latter can be (normally) really healthy people. Here's hoping you bounce back quickly to feeling great.

Hubby and I had it last week. He had it much worse than me but I still felt very unwell for a few days. I'll be doing my best not to catch it a second time!

Hosepipe bans more to do with uncontrolled population growth, massive programmes of house building over the last 10 years and an aging infrastructure that simply cannot cope. No one is willing to accept what stress mass uncontrolled immigration puts on the environment - ecological as well as socioeconomic.

Thank you for letting us all know. That must have been a hard decision and yet perhaps something we all may face given the length of time spent waiting and the changes in both our own and our families lives and health. It takes courage to walk away and I wish you well for the future.

It does seem to be moving quite fast and I’ve freed up a space. My application was August 2016 and I’ve been asked for further details. However, after much soul searching we’ve decided that during those six years of waiting we’ve aged enough for it to be too much of an ordeal to now up sticks. The ‘children’ have their own busy lives and circumstances have changed somewhat since the initial application. It’s a shame not to have been able to spend more time seeing the grandchildren grow but we’ve adapted and accepted. I hope my withdrawal will help someone achieve their visa a little quicker and I wish you all well.

Went to a Highland dancing competition in Launceston yesterday. A neighbour's 8 year old granddaughter was competing. Some great wee dancers amongst them.
