    Mount Martha - Mornington Peninsula

    Demographics

    13% of Mount Martha’s population is UK-born migrants being the 2nd highest of any suburb in Melbourne and the largest migrant group in the suburb. The Mornington Peninsula is predominately english with the majority of residents being Australian or UK-born migrants. Scottish, Irish and German migrants are also common in the suburb. These migrant groups are also the next largest behind UK-born migrants in Mount Martha and on the Mornington Peninsula. Dutch, Welsh, New Zealander, French, Italian and Greek are also smaller migrant groups in the area.

    The area was originally popular with wealthy retirees and used as holiday beach houses. However, the suburb has since become very family orientated with popular schools in nearby Mornington/Mount Eliza and Mount Martha’s own new Balcombe Grammar School and primary school. This is as well as the suburb offering many kindergartens.

    The area mostly consists of Managers, Professionals and Clerical/Administrative Workers. In Mount Martha 50.7% of residents are Christians and 40.2% have no religion.

    Transport 

    The popular tourist esplanade featuring the nearby Pillars and beach is the more scenic way of navigating the area. Alternatively, Nepean Highway cuts through the middle of the suburb along The Briars Park. The Mornington Peninsula Freeway also runs along the inland border of the suburb for a quicker commute to Melbourne.

    The closest train station is in Frankston however there has been plans to electrify the train line to the Mornington Peninsula in Baxter.

    Real Estate 

    Mt Martha’s median house price is $980,000 (November 2018) and the 4 bedroom median house price has increased by $145,000 within 12 months to $1,110,000 (November 2018). Rents have also increased in 2018 to a median of $515.

    Shopping

    The Mount Martha Village Shops is the main shopping area with a IGA supermarket and a variety of popular cafes and restaurants. Bentons Square Shopping Centre is also near the border of the suburb and is another alternative area for shopping.
