The Mornington Peninsula Shire has large industries in steel, manufacturing, building and construction. The council belongs to interface council grouping and has similar councils around. The councils is made up of 6 wards and 11 councillors which are elected via preferential voting. Once members are elected they serve a four-year term, the next election will be held in October 2020. It is predicted the population will continue to rise and by 2021 around 164,389 people will reside in the area.
