Younger OnesA forum especially for teenagers and the younger ones making the big move down under. Its here to discuss all things with migrating and living in Australia.
Im worried that if we move i wont be able to talk to my friends as much, i mean, i talk to them everyday at school and everyday on msn, but when we are in Oz, if we go, then i wont be able to talk to them, the time difference will mean that we wont be on msn at the same time, and if i phone them, it could be in the middle of the night.
I have a webcam and so do my friends so i will be able to see them.. but, i wont be able to see and talk to them all the time as the time difference is huge.
If anyone is in Oz, how did you cope? How many times do you talk to your friends?
If anyone can reply that would be great!
Love, Sian x

Hi hun, I used to talk to my girlfriend all the time on MSN before she moved over to the UK and we didn't have any problems - the weekends will be easier for you as non of you will have to worry about being late for school.
Not sure where you're moving to but the time difference with NSW and England is currently 9 hours, when the clocks change in October it'll be 11 hours.
It's not easy having real time conversations from the otherside of the world but with a little bit of planning on both sides it can be done.

Hi Sian
We were in Australia last year and yes it is difficult to talk "live" because of the time difference. If you are up early for school 6am - 7am you can talk before you go as it will be 4pm -5pm at home. Weekends will be OK as you can chat in the morning in Oz which will be early evening in UK. When you come home from school you won't be able to chat as everyone will be in bed! You will have to make the most of early morning and weekends if you need to keep in touch. You will soon make so many new friends you won't have time for MSN anyway.
Don't worry you will find a way round it.
Les

Were you still very close to your friend when she moved?

Hi Sian
I have 2 childre aged 9 & 13 and they talk to their uk friends quite a lot. Obviously weekends are best as it makes things a bit easier regarding the time differance. There are always emails and my daughter likes to write and receive real letters too. Also we are on a phone plan that gives us cheap calls to the UK and my kids call their friends and talk for ages on the phone. You'll be fine and with a bit of effort will be able to keep up the contact with your friends in the UK.
