Rugby in Aus

I'm moving to aus in January 2009 - to brisbane.

I love rugby and have been playing for my local team since I was 8 - I'm 13 - Today!!!!!!

I know there is an Australian Rugby Team but are there teams for my age.

I'm useless at football and not sure about aussie rules - although have a ball already.

Do you play union or league? You will find they call it 'Footy' over here and football as we know it called Soccer.

Either one you will loads of teams to play in, Aussie rules AFL is mostly played in Victoria/Adelaide, your main 'League' team would be the Brisbane Broncos which I am sure you have caught up with on TV if you have Sky.

Good luck and I am sure you will love living in Australia, you'll make lots of friends and you will be thankful your parents decided to migrate over here.

Look forward to watching you one day playing for the Broncos!

AFL is 'Footy' in VIC. Melbourne Storm are the best NRL team.

Union in Oz is pretty much dead on it's feet apart from the national team, League is the big game and is mostly an East coast sport.

AFL is expanding all over Oz with teams in WA, NSW,QLD, SA & VIC although historically it's a VIC sport. If you get a chance go to an AFL game, I saw Demons vs Bombers at MCG. It's a great game once you get into it & understand the rules.
There are local teams of Aussie Rules all over Oz as they use the Cricket pitches in the off season.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY - My son has been playing Rugby Union since the age of 7 he is now 11 - we also hope to leave in 2009. Do they play rugby (footy) in Schools in Oz. My son Jamie will start secondary school in September and it is part of his schools sport curriculum - which he is very happy about!! Rugby is very important to him and he would be upset not to be able to continue to play once in Australia. We did a google search for clubs in Victoria and have contacted a couple of youth clubs in Geelong but have not received any response.

Happy Birthday

Most towns here in Oz have their own
rugby union - all ages
rugby league - all ages
aussie rules - all ages
soccer - all ages
(we have all these in our suburb here in NSW) and most of the children start from the age of 5 upwards

Thank you to everyone

I'm so glad there's rugby in aus, and we've googled brisbane clubs .

It's going to take a while getting used to calling it footie.

Thanks for all my birthday wishes - scary that its going to be my last birthday in Wales.
