Younger OnesA forum especially for teenagers and the younger ones making the big move down under. Its here to discuss all things with migrating and living in Australia.
I have a few questions, if anyone can answer some then that would be great.
- Is it easy to make friends in oz?
- How friendly are the people in oz?
- Are the schools nice?
- Do the schools in oz take performing arts seriously? (I LOVE Drama)
I have some more questions but i wont ask too many atm.
Can anyone help by answering these?
Love Sian xx

My daughter was 11 when she arrived and is now 14, she did year 7 here (primary) and is now in year 8, so this is here second school. She's loved both so far. She made friends pretty quickly, although we knew which school she was coming to and the principle had set up a pen pal for her before we arrived so she was able to ask lots of questions, via msn her pen pal introduced her to some more class mates, so when she started school she felt as if she knew a few people. People were friendly and she didn't have any problems.
I don't know about all schools, but I know that at Alex's high school they do Drama and Dance so I'm sure it's available at alot of schools.
Good luck with your 'adventure', remember to talk to your parents too if you have any worries - you'll probably find they have the same ones, I know I was scared about leaving my friends and starting a new job too
Hi sian - I cant remember her msn (because she changed it to something that doesn't make much sense to me - but does to her obviously lol) so I will pm you her email and you can ask her if that's ok.
She had lots of worries before we came and is so settled now that I hope she can make you feel more comfortable about the move - we were talking about would you ever go back to the UK last night, and other than meeting up with friends again ... she wouldn't want to go back.
Thanks for PMing me, I will email her after ive posted this.
I also hope she can make me feel more comfortable! Ive got so many worries, one of my main ones is: I have 2 best friends, and if i move then i will have to leave them behind, but the worrying part is, Sophie's Mum & Dad have also thought of moving, they say they probably wont, but if she does also move, then my other best friend will be left in UK without us. This worries me, as i dont want her to be left alone. Sophie - Best friend who has thought about it - says they probably wont and it was just a thought, which is good, because i dont want her to move to Oz. I no this sounds strange but i dont want Chloe to be left alone, but as she says, it was just a thought and they probably wont move. How did Alex feel about leaving her best friends behind?
Anyway, i dont want to leave Chloe or Sophie behind, i dont want to leave any of my friends behind. And if i moved then they would be upset, as i've told them about it and they got upset and said that i cant move.
Anyway, i think ive spoke too much, lol, i'll email Alex now.
Love Sian x
P.S - My Mum says she will PM you soon!

I Sian - I've replied to you and your mum and passed on your msn to Alex.
Alex had a best friend called Ellen - she was like part of our family as she stayed over quite often, we all miss her very much, but Alex and Ellen have made a really big effort to keep in touch with each other, they send little gifts out of the blue, postcards just telling each other they are thinking of each other, letters etc., and talk on msn and by email.. I know they still miss actually seeing each other in person but they still describe each other as their best friend because they have something which is very special. So even though you won't see Sophie and Chloe I'll bet that the friendship you have is like the one which Alex has with Ellen and which won't be broken by distance. Having a web cam helped Alex too 'cos she can see everyone - if you've not got one, your mum and dad may think of getting you one (promise to do some chores and I'm sure they'll agree lol).
