Hi Lois,
We came to Perth in January 2007, my daughter was 11 and my son 7. My daughter was worried about the same things as you - what would school be like, would she make friends, what if she missed her old ones too much?
With the help of msn and emails she's still in touch with her old friends, she made new ones at school very quickly and really enjoys school. She doesn't miss the UK as much as she thought she would as all and loves living in Australia. I'm sure you'll be fine when you get here, Perth is a great place and I know Alex said at her school there were new people arriving all the time, so you're never the new girl/boy for long. What I would say, is make sure you talk to your parents too - they're probably feeling just as scared about coming to the other side of the world - and will probably find it a bit harder than you will to make friends right away (grown ups aren't as good at it as kids lol)
Good luck
Ali xx
