hiya moving to queensland being of 2009 and worried ! !

hiya am naiomi and i am 15 and i am hopefully moving to queensland being of 2009 and i am dead worried!because i want to finish my GCSE'S before i go caz i am worried about starting school overthere caz i think it will be totally different and that it will be hard to make new friends.my bother and my antie are over in australia and they say it is fine but i am still worried has any one got any advice for me

I am Aarron and we are hoping to move after our visit later this year. Dont worry too much. I am starting 6th form in September and I dont know if we will wait until i finish there and then move.

Don't worry you will be fine. My friend emigrated with 5 kids 3 years ago and one was your age. She wasn't sure at first but now says she wouldn't come home for anything. She has made loads of friends, has a great life in the sun and spends most of the time outside. You have a fantastic opportunity so go girl and grab it with both hands and come back on here and tell us how much you are enjoying it next year!!!

Hi Hun
Not sure about that Naiomi as my kids are older. One starting Uni in London in Sep and staying here for 3 years then emigrating over so we will be going before him. I haven't had to research any schools or what exams they do, etc. Why don't you put a thread on or research the school system in the area you are going to. You can probably email schools to ask them.

Of course you should carry on with your coursework!! hehe nice try tho!!
I think if you carry on with it and take it out there with you then your new school will be able to see what you have achieved and are capable of. They may even be able to allow you to use some of it within their curriculum. It is probably better to be prepared than not :) Good Luck to you!

My daughter ('Gracee' on Poms in Oz) is in exactly the same situation. She is working hard towards her GCSEs at the moment but she won't be sitting the exams as we are moving to Brisbane later this year. We've decided that it's better for her, as it would be for you, to start year 11 in Queensland in January 2009 to commence studies towards QCEs which are the Queensland equivalent of A levels. GCSEs aren't really worth anything in Oz, but your coursework and reports from UK will be useful for your future school when you eventually move. Good luck.
