can anyone help me?
Hi there
i have just recently arrived in WA 2 weeks ago and i have settled in ok.
my little one is in cuddles nursery around the corner and he likes it very much.
the thing is i am here alone, as a single parent i mean, i live with my brother and his partner who have just a weeks ago had a baby boy. who is really beautiful, but at times i feel a bit with everything that has happened so soon.
what i want to do is really work in the mines as this is what my brother does but i want to do something else whatever they have got that takes my fancy. i know it's hard work and i have been told a lot about the mines by my brother the only thing is child care on site or if not on site then at home?.
i have been told by a nursery teacher that her friend is in the mines as a child minder and there are some mines that do 24/7 child minding for people who work in the mines. is there anyone out there who could help me with this as i am desperate to get to work and earn good money. i don't think i could settle in a norm job when all i have heard the past 2 years off my brother how good they are and the money is fab, and i have seen his house with my own eyes and i want what he has got, unfortunately he knows nothing about the child care part of it..
thank you
kathryn

hi there, sorry i haven't got any info about the mines stuff, but just seen ur post sayin where ur child is in daycare. dont want to be a scare monger but i used to work for that company, and they are not all they seem to be in terms of quality chilldcare im afraid. some of the staff are fantastic and it does depend on which centre they are in, but just be ware, there is a reason they are cheaper than every where else.....

The majority of unskilled jobs are taken by what they call locals, those living in the town where the mine is, cheaper than paying for flights for fifo. It is near on impossible to live as a local as the rents in these towns can be as much as $1000 per week, which is what it is in Port Hedland to rent anything decent. I'm in Newman and the available rentals at the moment is zero, which is what it is in most of the mining towns, very difficult to get acommodation.

you used to work for the company! what kind of things are we talking about here though because yes you have put the sh**s up me a bit now in a way, and this is not what i was asking people about... he has been at the nursery for 2 weeks and has had 2 falls a bang to the chin and a graze to his arm.. is this because the staff were not attending to him.. or the fact that you can't be there for all the kids and accidents happen. like i said in my post my little one LOVES it.. should say everything i think.. dont you! weather you have a grudge against the company or whatever i think opinions like your are certainly not needed on here. especially when the nursery in question is NOT one that isn't known to the whole of Australia near enough... wow can i just say something now.. my sister in law is a nursery teacher and used to work for ABC nursey and when we went to look in there to put my child in there she had a conversation with a staff member that really shocked me. more or less saying has it gotten better because it used to be ****! and the lady said sort of! (how thick) as if ide put him in htere then. and just shows how everyone has there own preferences where as Cuddles is known for what bad things exacly? but ABC is known for shutting down here there and every bloody where but are only just getting back on track.. only been here 3 weeks and seem to know a bit myself.. good when you do your home work...

wat you mean all the other guys have gone? you mean been laid off or the jobs have all gone? and i know what you are reffering to as a joey yes sir, no sir, 3 bags full sir, but at the end of the day thats the job title ile be doing in that case a good old joey but for me i find this easy to just serve a few meals well a hundred or so..... not exacly hard work is it.well actually if you aint had a good job in doing it before like im a kitchen hands so you still have to have expeirience and have worked in the kitchens to know what things are not just durrrrrrrrrr... that's.... a.... spoon.........! ile cook for the other joeys as well as we all will be working to achive better things in life weather your up there or not.. and then at the end of the total shift il'e just go home and enjoy what i didn't have before in england.. A LIFE! the whole point of coming here... a new life, new place, new jobs, new people, new things to do, and MORE MONEY to do it with!

Sorry to pee on your chips.
All caravans parks in the northwest have permanent bays, a lot of people do live in the parks. It is very hard to get a permanent bay, and it can cost around $300 per week to use them. There are no available permanent bays in Newman at the moment. You will find it VERY difficult to get any sort of affordable acommodation in a mining area. Most of the houses are owned by companies or companies rent them for their workers. Due to the shortage the rents are very high.

Hi Kathy, like most things in life when you work hard enough eventually you reap what you sow. Getting a camper can in Australia sounds good, but as a previous poster mentioned the Mines are not all milk and honey. Camping in mining towns and I can only speak for Karratha are expensive and not pleasant. Some Australian friends of mine from Perth who are floor tilers have just left camping in our back garden, due to lack of space at the sites and also $400 a week caravan rents! coupled with that nursery spaces are at a premium. You seem to have family support in Perth which is wonderful, but you might have to live a solitary, poor existance in mining towns which I am sure you probably have taken on board already.
One thing you could possibly look at is advertising in the Pilbara Classies for a nannying position for example, there are a small percentage of men that been left holding the baby /children so to speak, whichever direction you choose to go with your precious child best wishes and remember chasing the buck isnt everything in this world! best wishes ss x
