Do it tonight Tim- our local Woolies is shut. I suppose IGA and those type of shops might be open? Get it over with now then you can relax tomorrow. I've just been to Liquorland for my 5 ltrs of white for $16.99:wink:

Hope you have a good day.

I read that because it is Saturday, then Sat is being treated as a bank holiday. Next year, the Sunday ANZAC bank holiday will move to Monday. So I guess a lot of shops will be closed, but it does not seem to be across the board. We still do not know for sure if our son's school is closed on Monday

Our woolies closed too - don't know about Coles, noticed our local butcher is going to open though. Thousands are expected at Kings Park tomorrow for the service which is really quite moving.

I think you will find that most supermarkets etc are open from 1.00PM,certainly that is the case here in Victoria,

Actually I am wrong, here are the details for all states.

PUBLIC HOLIDAY TRADING RESTRICTIONS

EASTER AND ANZAC DAY 2009

Australian Capital Territory

There are no trading restrictions in the ACT.

New South Wales

All shops are required to close on Good Friday (10 April) and Easter Sunday

(12 April) unless they are “small shops”; “exempt shops”; or are located in

a exempted tourist area; or have been granted an exemption under s.10 of

the Shop Trading Act 2008; or had an exemption under previous legislation.

All shops except “small shops” and “exempt shops” must not open before

1pm on Anzac Day (Saturday 25 April - there is no substitute public holiday)

unless they have an exemption under s.10 of the Shop Trading Act 2008.

Note: New trading hours legislation, the Shop Trading Act 2008, came into force

in July 2008. ‘Small shops’ and ‘exempt shops’ are defined in the Act and a list of

exempted tourist areas is available here.

Northern Territory

There are no trading restrictions in the Northern Territory.

Queensland

Queensland’s arrangements are particularly complex due to the large

number of trading hour zones. Please refer to the attached schedule of

trading hours in the various zones prepared by the National Retail

Association.

Non-exempt shops throughout Queensland are not permitted to trade on

Anzac Day (Saturday 25 April - there is no substitute public holiday) or on

Labour Day (Monday 4 May).

Note: For a definition of non-exempt shop please refer to the Trading (Allowable

Hours) Act 1990. As a general rule most supermarkets, discount department

stores, department stores and most national retailers are non-exempt shops.

South Australia

Non-exempt shops in metropolitan Adelaide cannot trade on Good Friday

(10 April), Easter Sunday (12 April) and Easter Monday (13 April) but can

open on Easter Saturday (11 April) until 5pm. Non-exempt shops in country

areas that are still proclaimed shopping districts (ie. that still regulate

trading hours) cannot trade on Easter Saturday (11 April).

Page 2

- 2 -

Non-exempt shops cannot open on Anzac Day (Saturday 25 April - there is

no substitute public holiday).

Note: For a definition of ‘exempt shop’ please refer to the Shop Trading Hours Act

1977. As a general rule, however, most supermarkets, discount department stores,

department stores and most other national retailers are not exempt shops.

Tasmania

Trading is prohibited on Good Friday (10 April) and before 12 noon on Anzac

Day (Saturday 25 April - there is no substitute public holiday).

Victoria

Only ‘exempt shops’ can trade on Good Friday (10 April), Easter Sunday (12

April) and before 1pm on Anzac Day (Saturday 25 April – there is no

substitute public holiday).

Note: For a definition of ‘exempt shops’ please refer to the Shop Trading Reform

Act 1996. As a general rule most supermarkets, discount department stores,

department stores and most national retailers are non-exempt shops. A number of

municipalities outside Melbourne have been granted exemptions and can trade on

Easter Sunday – see Business Victoria website for details.

Western Australia

Over Easter, general retail shops (including those in the Perth and

Fremantle tourism precincts) are not permitted to open on Good Friday (10

April) or Easter Monday (13 April). Easter Saturday (11 April) is a normal

trading day. On Easter Sunday (12 April) only general retail shops in the

Perth and Fremantle tourism precincts can open.

On Anzac Day (Saturday 25 April), general retail shops (including those in

the Perth and Fremantle tourism precincts) are not permitted to open. WA

has also declared Monday 27 April as a substitute public holiday because

Anzac Day falls on a Saturday. However, the WA Government has issued

permits to allow shopping centres and general retail shops in metropolitan

Perth to open on the Monday from 8am to 6pm.

Note: The above arrangements do not apply north of the 26

th

parallel of south

latitude where trading hours are unregulated or to those areas outside metropolitan

Perth which may have special arrangements. ‘General retail shops’ are shops that

do not fall within the definitions of ‘small retail shops’ and ‘special retail shops’ in

the Retail Trading Hours Act 1987. As a general rule national chain supermarkets

and most discount department stores, department stores and most national

retailers are ‘general retail shops’.

I believe that is the case. Major stores, such as Woolies, are shut in WA tomorrow.

Cheers
