Hello there,
getting into the mining sector is as the others have mentioned not as easy as you think. No experience ummmm!
The courses that are being conducted here are very expensive $3480 for a weeks course to drive a dump truck.Ridiculous! If youve driven a Dump truck in the UK might be worth mentioning it but over here you will need an HR licence(Heavy Ridged)
I have worked at the mines off and on for the last 3 years.
You have underground mining mostly gold in the gold and eastern goldfields
Open pit which is mainly Iron ore (Very difficult to get into as the money is the best)
Other mining which can be nickel ,coal .
And the Diamond mines (security at Argyle is better than a prison)
The isolation at camp can be very stressful especially if you are new to the country and not use to the minesite lifstyle let alone the climate.
I am not trying to put you off because only you can decide what you would like to do .I would suggest that you try getting employed with one of the companies in Britain first and then apply for a transfer to Australia.
BHP Billiton-Iron Ore
RIo Tinto -Iron ore- Diamonds etc
Barrick -Gold
Remember these minesites are in the middle of nowhere and they only fly in when your roster comes up for an R& R stretch you cant hop on a train or a bus or hike home .Two weeks in a tiny room with ensuite (if your lucky) working 12-14 hrs a day.Hot as Hell in Summer and Freezing cold in winter. Most are in dessert regions.
sorry if this bursts the bubble but I am only trying to give you an honest picture of things.
