Smile Is Flu that bad in oz they keep trying to flog vaccine's

Hi everyone in WA,

especially in Bunbury as this looks like where we are heading.

Question? I listen to Mix 94.5 a radio station in Perth just to compare the local news with the UK. Anyway they Keep playing adverts for FLU vaccine, is it that bad? as you all know in the UK they only direct that towards the elderly 60+. Are they just trying to flog you this to get money out of you or is it that bad?
In the UK if you get FLU we just work through it or is it considered bad manners to come to work with FLU or a very bad cold in oz?

Kindest regards to all

Glynn and Family

I think it's just an OZ thing, we get offered free vaccines through my work, I don't get them though, had one years ago and made me feel worse than when I got the flu!!! lol

Most people come to work when they have a cold, we save our 'Sickies' for when we feel okay so we can enjoy them!

Last year a number of children died due to respiritory problems following flu symptoms - so they've been pushing flu vaccines for children and elderly in particular. We get them for free at the hospital and I know they're free for children.

we live in Bunbury (well actually Dalyellup) and touch wood haven't had flu yet, think they are just pro-active here about flu jabs and give it to kids as well as older people. Been here since October and touch wood haven't been poorly since arriving must be all the good fresh food and wine. Winters can be cold at night here, ok not as cold as the UK but the houses are cold as no central heating, single glaze windows (that leak lovely cold air) and wood floors but hey its only for about 10 weeks and its a good break from the heat of the summer.

Ali - you will be pleased to see I've posted a photo finally, its of our dog looking lovely and healthy on the beach - she's 10 years old and is having the time of her life every weekend on Dalyellup beach she's a real beach babe now and wouldn't go near the sea in the UK, I wonder why!!!????

Its nothing more than commercialization.
We have "get your heart checked, before its too late" ads all the time, its just a commercial set up.
There are lots of them, its like spam and you just learn to ignore them..

If you listen to the 94.5 ads you will realise 3 child deaths....out of 2.1million population. My heart goes out to the Families of the 3, however things should be kept in propotion. The over 65's and under 5's are most vulnerable, but lets keep it in proportin?!

A lot of people here call a common cold 'the flu'. If people had full blown flu they would be confined to bed for a week.
I don't think there are more instances of cold/flu here in oz than in britain, although i think people are more susceptible here because of the constant, daily extremes in temperature

By the way Sarah, make sure you use factor 30 on that lovely dog of yours. You know how hot it can get down south
