Desperate Nurse!!

Hi, Im new here, I have just made my decision to go for it, and move over to Perth for a few years, and see what happens, Im a single parent of a 3 year old, and am a nurse, and wondered if any of you are in similar circumstances and would love to hear of your experience. How easy was it to arrange childcare around your job? I have applied through health care recruitment who claim to make your relocation as easy as poss, arrange your job and visas etc for free!! Am a a bit overwhelmd at this stage, can it be done? a single parent working fulltime and keeping my head above water, whilst ensuring the happiness and safety of my son. Am hoping to go a few weeks after my friend who is emigrating next year.

Hi and a very warm welcome to PIO .... I dont have the information you require but there are several nursing threads ... if you use the search facility above (grey box below the orange bar) you should find any info you need. I know there is another single parent nurse on here who has made the move and all is going well for her.

Good luck XXX

Its like reading my own story!
I moved to Perth in Feb this year with my 3 yr old.
Im a full time nurse working nights shifts. It was hard juggling the initial first month of day shifts with childcare due to start and finish times ( and had a difficult boss).
I now work 4 nights one week 3 the next, my daughter is in daycare 3 times a week (coninciding with the days i need to sleep after working).
I had to put my daughters name donw on about 5 waiting lists for close by childcare about 5 months before we left as found it can be hard to find a place especially for full time.
We rent a 2 bedroom unit, i share a room with my daughter and let out the other room to a uni studebnt for free in return for babysitting over night-working out really well so far.
It is hard meeting people as evenings im in with my daughter and no free relatives to babysit like at home! But have met a few people from similar forums. My daughter loves it here and settled very well after about a month (a very stressful time!).
We love the hundreds of huge parks there are here, better weather to get out in, lots more things to do and see with children and cheaper/free than the UK.
You should definatly try it-it can be done and we are having a good time, not sure what the long term plans are but great for now. Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Also, if you go with certain companies or apply directly to a hosptial they often pay for whole visa process PLUS any expenses incured on the way, i.e you AND your dependants flights, stop overs, first months accomodation/rental bond, taxi from airport to accomodation on arrival/home to airport, medicals, nursing registration etc etc.
They are desperate for nurses here!

Hi
My husband and I both worked fulltime in Perth. I am a nurse and we have 4 sons, at that time ranging from 1 year old to 9 years old. We used a childcare/nanny agency in Perth called motherhen, it was great. You tell the agency in advance the shifts you are working and you only pay for the amount of days that you use in a week. The quality of 'nanny' was great and she would pick up my children from school and kindy. I would come home from work and she was making chocolate muffins with them, they loved it! They also do an overnight service and when I was on an early shift they would arrive at the house about 06.30hrs.
We found it difficult to try to arrange day care and after school care and this facility was great.

Hi Arlene, i looked at motherhen too, they do look good but found on a single wage i couldnt afford it finacially with all the other outgoings. I do use a young babysitter every other sunday, but again average prices seem to range from $15-$22 an hour for most-not making much more than that working.

Hi
i think we paid 13 dollars per hour for our 4 but that was a lot cheaper than day care because the hourly rate stayed the same despite the amount of children! Good luck with your plans, I hope it all works out for you.

Thanks for all the responses folks, my dilemma now, is that I dont think that my ex will let me go with our son, He has treated me appalingly, and was in another relationship with his now wife when I fell pregnant, I didnt find out however until 3 weeks before I had my son that she existed despite being in a relationship with him for 10 years, now, he pays maintenance and sees him sometimes twice a week for 5 hours at a time and his name is on the birth cert. He has made a great life for himself and has a family now too, I just wish I could make a better life for my son and I too but I know he will refuse permission and will not help in my quest for Oz, so it'll be court I'd imagine. Has anyone else been in this situation? He's messed my life up truly and utterly and it looks as though he going to do it again with this hope of getting over there for a few years at least, Im not planning to emmigrate, just want around 5 years experience in the land of Oz!! xx
Help??!!! ps. we were never married and did not cohabit.

Hi, you are right-as he is on the birth certificate and has some kind of contact you will need to go through the courts to ask permission, focusing on how it will be a positive move for your son.
Would there be no pursauding him, even if you put a limit of a year on it. As you say-seems unfair he is able to get on with his life and you cant do what you want with yours.
