A few nights in Perth

Our reccie is getting closer and while we've managed a camper van in Brisbane, we are one day short of requirements to hire one in Perth. Can anyone recommend somewhere cheapish but not nasty to stay. There's just the two of us going, so no need to cater for kids. We'll be in central Perth to start with - not sure how we'll get on that first night as we arrive about 11pm!

We intend to travel up north and down south and may stay a night somewhere between Rockingham and Busselton, so all recommendations are welcome.

we've just booked a room in the Hilton in the CBD of Perth for $120 a night (it was the cheapest place we could find at the time) its their advance booking room (rest start at $150) so you have to ask for the advance booking queen room and bingo a bargain and its supposed to be a lovely hotel. If you want an apartment with parking we stayed at Mount Bay Apartments and there is an outdoor pool (bit chilly at the mo for that tho), gym and tennis courts plus the free bus stops right outside and its literally five mins into the centre of town.

We live in Bunbury and not sure where is best to stay between Rockingham and Busso as its all small towns. Plenty of camp sites along the way though. Why not stay in Busselton and then drive back up the next day to Rockingham or stay in Dunsborough if you want to be near the wineries, Cape Naturaliste (beautiful especially Bunker Bay) and there are a couple of bars there as well.

Thanks for those ideas. Wineries in Dunsborough? MMMMmmm. Resist it is not a holiday.

Did you book at the Hilton online? The only one OH could find was the Parmelia Hilton and the cheapest room was $270 a night. We'll probably stay in camping grounds down south, but he wants a hotel or motel in Perth not too far from the airport. I'll have a scout today.

Parmelia Hilton is the right one and you can book on line think the room kinda sneaks up at the bottom of the list (they hide it well). Its a special offer but we booked for 7 June and got a room for $120, might be worth giving them a ring as its a national booking line and ask them if they have an advance booking room on the nights you want and you may get one for $120 (Queen size room) the other rooms were $!50 for the same night.

Other than that the Travel lodge in Hayes St can be under $200 a night and Comfort Inn even cheaper. Try wotif.com they often have special/cheap hotel rooms in Perth.

The CBD is about 20 mins from the airport.

And I'm afraid to tell you (lol) that you'll find wineries all the way down on your drive from Perth to Busselton. The majority of the biggers ones are in Margaret River which is about 20 mins from Busselton.

Oh no. I knew there were wineries at Margaret River, but didn't realise they were all the way down. We'll definitely have to stay in the area at least one night.

Thanks. I'll have another look at the Parmelia Hilton, but I have since found a few motels and lodges cheaper still. Not sure how they cope with us arriving after 11pm though. One place stated that if you booked in after midnight you were actually booked in for the following night, not that night.

Do you realise they even have chalets at Jandakot Airport. Not that I was tempted because I hardly think staying at the airport would be conducive to sleep, but I thought it was really funny, and if you're on a tight budget it's really cheap - like $45 for a single room or $88 for a chalet with double bed.

mysouthwest.com.au is a local tourist board site and lists all the available accommodation from Bunbury down and we've used a couple of the companies and have had really nice property.

good luck in your travels and bring a brolly if you are coming soon as we have a med climate so we do get very heavy showers and it can get quite cold in the evenings compared to the day at this time of the year.

Enjoy the wine, we do.

Thank you. We don't have much rain here, but by the time we come over our average temp will be 8 in the day and -2 at night, so I suspect we won't find it too chilly.

Hi
We arrived late at night and just for the one night we stayed at the Hotel Formual One which is right near to the airport. We booked 2 rooms for 2 adults & 2 kids (1 adult and child in each room) its clean & basic but fine for that first night when you just want to get showered and get some sleep. The roms were $100 each.
We have also stayed at Aar0ns hotel which is nice and affordable, has family rooms and is right in the centre of Perth
Mandy x

l in central Perth which was very reasonable and right in the centre of town

Thanks for that. We've opted to leave the kids behind so that we actually stay on track, but yeah it will be a budget trip, so I'll go look up some of those places.
