If you work in WA and in mining you can earn a fortune. I saw a programme a couple of months ago that said they were desparate for people to work in the industry. So much so that they were paying $100K just to drive the mammoth diggers around!
The problem is that all the mines are in the middle of nowhere so not much of a life for families.
Try Rio Tinto / BHP as a starting point if you want to apply directly or there are agencies on Oz that will cover recruitment.

Tin Man
Write to all the companies and employment agencies - they are desperate for workers over here.
I came over 3 weeks ago to work in the Queensland coal mines for a company called Macmahon - check out Macmahon Holdings Ltd for available jobs or just to contact the HR dept. We have mines throughout Queensland and WA so something may be suitable.
If this fails I think your best bet is an employment agency - Barclay Recruitment in Brisbane helped me get my job.
Good luck

thanks pinhead... the mine i worked in closed in 1998 but reopened a couple of years ago as the tin price has gone mad. problem is the company that own the mine now are micky mouse and pay low wages and never heard of health and safety... my mate broke his neck two weeks ago underground and the bosses are trying to get statements to say it was his own fault... lol... shocking. i quit yesterday morning.
regards,
andy.

thanks barnsleydave... will do buddy. i was at the sharp end underground, drill and blasting and mucking out till 1998 until it closed... not sure if mines over in oz may think i've been out too long. until yesterday morning we were on redevelopment and i quit because of bad management.. low wages.. and my mate snapping his neck. its made me more determined to get out of this country... should have gone to oz the first time in 98.
regards.
andy.

Hi I am new to the site and I think it is great with very helpful friendly people. I haven't been able to help anyone yet but on this I think I might be able to. Rio Tinto have an office in London and they recruit for their sites around the world, they help with relocation etc. Yes dump truck drivers are paid a fortune as are the other mine workers.
There is a mine in WA that is near a place called Tom Price and I think it is called the Hamersley mine. Tom Price is 2 days drive from Perth but one of the perks of working with Rio is that you get so many free flights a year, it takes about 4 1/2 hrs.
My step-father works there and has done for a lot of years.
My husband and I are in the process of applying to live there with my Mum and Dad.
Hope this helps a little Tin Man.

I would try going to the Rio web site itself. Send them your CV and fingers crossed they will have something there for you. They have their vacancies listed.
Also at Tom Price they have work for contractors, plasterers, electricians, plumbers etc as the is a large development project going on whereby they are building a large estate in the town.
At the moment there are only about 5,000 rezzies living there but it is expanding quickly. Working for Rio you get a choice of home, plus the rent is subsidized so it is very low.
Contractors go there for a year or two not many stay they make their money then leave.
My Mum and Dad have been there for 20 odd years.
Tom Price is in the middle of nowhere, have a look on google earth or maps and have a look.

I've been to the Argyle diamond mine WA near the Bungle Bungles.
Fantastic facilities, they even have an olympic size swimming pool!
