At the moment there are only about 5,000 rezzies living there but it is expanding quickly. Working for Rio you get a choice of home, plus the rent is subsidized so it is very low.
Contractors go there for a year or two not many stay they make their money then leave.
My Mum and Dad have been there for 20 odd years.
Tom Price is in the middle of nowhere, have a look on google earth or maps and have a look.
Hi
I was looking for a FIFO job

Ali O is on a distinguished road
It is beautiful around that area but very isolated so it's not for a lot of people who like to be surrounded by clubs, pubs and restaurant's. Tom Price has them just not as many.
I am going over for a visit soon so there will be lots of piccies taken as so far I have only found one online of Tom Price and that was the high street.

Hello Tin Man

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I haven't a clue about mining, so please bear with me.

Somebody on Poms in Adelaide posted a thread about mining in SA. Various people who know about mining in Oz helped out with links. I don't know how many might be useful to you but here is the thread:

mining - Poms In Adelaide

Also, it is worth having a chat with Richard at Workforce Solutions because I think they recruit for mines amongst other things. Please see here:

Workforce Solutions UK Website

Plus Jamie Smith at Hire A Migrant seems very clued up too. Please see here:

Welcome to Hire A Migrant

Additionally, have a chat with Neil (Keily.) Please see here:

PomsInOz Forum - View Profile: keily

Neil is headed for Perth and I think he plans to do something in the mines, and has been to some of the mines in WA (eg Kalgoorlie.) He knows a lot of sites that are not mentioned on the Poms in Adelaide link.

Neil is often in Chat in the evenings (UK time,) Look for him any time from about 8pm onwards. Click on Chat in the red bar towards the top of your screen. There are different rooms so you and neil could go into one by yourselves if you wish, so that you could discuss mining in WA without being distracted by other chat.

Best wishes

Gill

thanks for all the replys as it not only helps me.. but helps others in the same situation. i will research all info given to me, its not as easy as i thought it was going to be lol. i guess im lucky as i've had quite a bit of experience underground but i've just been told by an agency that i will have to come to oz on my mason's (brickie) tickets... fair enough.. as long as we can get out there. im seriously thinking of farming the kids out to reletives... me and the mrs jumping on a plane and doing a recce as we are recently married and having a honeymoon at the same time.
regards..
andy.

you may also want to check out Barrick. During 2008 they expect to hire 3,600 people at many locations around the world in a variety of capacities. They have a mining careers site that provides more info, you can search for positions and apply online.
