Smile sponsorhips in transport

Hi To you all

I am having trouble finding company sponsorships, is there a list of companies that will sponsor drivers for long term//living in australia. I am a petroleum tanker driver that is looking to live and work in WA, I got good reports from an agency they told me I was good to go, I went to there seminar they then told me I had to go back to australia, first to have my licences validated, then get a sponsor, then start of the proccess of getting a visa, can I do any of this from the uk, or do I have to return to australia. would anyone know if there is a list of companys in WA that sponsor uk drivers, my wish is to live and work in australia. They show you wonderful pictures of a country that is so difficult to live in.

many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

Is this program with Thinking Australia? My husband is a fuel tanker driver and we have been told that he will need to go over and also resit his tests. There is a big debate and unions are involved and its all to do with drivers in OZ wanting a better deal so thats why they wont put it on the skills shortage list coz they dont want migrant workers filling the jobs for less money. I dont think there is a list of sponsors though and Darrell might be the best option. I think you know as much as us at the moment but we are due to meet up with Darrell in June. I do know of a driver that went out to do his license and it didnt go to plan but that is all I know. Im not sure if this helps

Hi there to both

thanks for the reply, its a problem, they don't want it and we do, my sister lives in rockingham smack bang in the middle of it, I am just 50, it was cut and dried according to darrel, i was red hot he said, I went to his seminar then they said, go to auz get your licences validated, and then get yourself a sponsor, and then we will do your visa, he says be prepared to go soon. They will not sponsor you because they are scared to , the reason being they may fall foul of there own law, my sister is working overtime to find a register or some list that will give us a start, if I get anything I will pass this on to you, good luck and HELLO AND ITS GOOD TO MEET YOU.

GOOD HEALTH

steve

Hi Steve,

We have just come back from Perth which didn't go as planned! I just think it seems crazy, businesses are going bust because they can't find drivers but nobody is willing to sponsor drivers!!!!

Hi Steve

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

I think there are several issues here.

If you go into Google Australia and tell is Migrant Workers + Truck Drivers, telling it to confine itself to Australian web-pages only, heaps of links appear. Below is a selection from the ones I found:

Transport Workers Union WA

Re:457 VISA PUSH FOR TRUCK DRIVERS - Politics - Australian News Message Boards

Transport Workers Union of Australia

The last link above is not a brand new one but it is relatively recent because Kevin Andrews was Minister for Immi only between Jan 2007 and Nov 2007. He went out when the Howard Government did.

I think there is massive Union opposition to the idea of migrant drivers being allowed into Oz. I'm not sure what the stuff on the first link - re the licences - is about.

It might be worth having a chat with Phil Olsen. Please see the links below:

http://www.pomsinoz.com/forum/jobs-c...g-friends.html

I do not know what the outcome of that thread was but Phil is a Registered Migration Agent, a very nice guy and he is somewhere around Perth:

Migration Agents Registration Authority=

The MARA information for Phil should be up to date.

I can see Darrell's point that a driver who already has the necessary licences might well find it easier to get a sponsor, but I do not know anything about the licences themselves. You may be able to glean something from here:

Licensing Home.

However, you do have a major helper in your sister. She may be able to find some haulage companies.

It may be worth asking Janette Braveheart as well because she has recently joined a road freight company in Perth:

PomsInOz Forum - View Profile: Mrs Braveheart

Janette might be able to find out more about the whole "scene" for you, as it were.

Like Lynne, I've heard of a guy who was sponsored for a job as a truck driver but he was in South Australia and I think a cousin or someone who had a road haulage company sponsored the British chap.

I've heard of several drivers who have gone to WA on tourist visas, banged on doors and got nowhere, though. I don't know whether the strength of the Unions vary from state to state.

It is all vague, I know, but hopefully you might find some leads via the links above.

Best wishes

Gill

Hi Roan

Does that sound good or what, It make me seeth they want you, they want your training because we are trained to the highest standard, so why is it so hard to get in, why do they put up so many fences for you to climb.

thanks for your reply

peace

Steve
