So where is the best place to start looking to live in Perth?

With a bit of luck we should have our visas in a few weeks and want arrive in Oz at the beginning of July so where do I start? We are looking in to shipping our furniture across need new beds and the sofas not 100% so should I buy them here or are things like that just as cheap? We've never done city living so am looking for a smallish town that has all amenities nearby with a nice school for my 3 & 6 year old.
All our friends seem to think that we will be back in scotland after a few months, is that likely or is the welcome you get in Australia as good as what it seems on th tv.
So many more questions I could be on all day!
Nic

You don't really find towns as such - most suburbs have their own little shopping centres - no 'town shops' as such with a high street. At the moment alot of people have been considering going back to the UK, top of the list seems to be homesickness, missing family and friends, and for some struggling financially. If you're going to be buying new beds and a sofa anyway then I'd buy them here, there's loads of places to buy them from and of course IKEA

Hi Nic
We didn't bring any furniture over apart from an oak cabinet! We have bought all new stuff and have found the things pretty cheap actually. You can get a lot of good quality wooden furniture and as Ali says there is Ikea if you like their stuff and most places have a few furniture, electrical shops nearby.
