Red face 2 more questions/concerns!

Hi

2 questions (well 2 for now - I like to space them out so I don't bombard people!)

Can anyone advise on the cheapest form of short term accommodation upon arrival. I would like somewhere for 6-8 weeks so in that time we can look for where we want to live. All I can come up with is holiday accommodation which is way out of my price league. I would be happy in a little caravan in a trailer park for 2 months if thats what is the cheapest...while spending the time looking for my house and future home but not wasting too much money.

2ndly - How have people found their kids have setteled in the school and what is the std of ed like compared to here in UK. My son will be 13. He is above average bright but shy and reserved.

Not sure of where I will be going exactly yet. I just know it will be surrounding Perth.

Maybe I am putting the cart before the horse but I like fact finding......

Thanks AGAIN
Simone

We managed to find a 12 week furnished rental for when we arrived via the internet - he reduced the rent to $625 per week (which included all bills). Bit of a gamble really but worked out ok. I'd think twice about a caravan park - the ones I've seen are awful (not like caravan sites in the UK) and alot of people use these for low cost housing. I know some high schools in WA offer an academic extension programme for students (usually years 8 - 10), at my daughters school they sit an exam/interview for this. My daughter is quiet too but has settled into school life here pretty quickly.

Hi Simone

I can't help with the subject of schools.

For accommodation, the Lonely Planet Guide might help.

Australia Travel Guide and Travel Information - Lonely Planet

Also, I would suggest joning British Expats and sending a PM to Professional Princess. Sam and Abdel moved to Perth about 6-8 weeks ago and are now renting a flat in Fremantle. I know they are on a tight budget for accommodation, so she probably has masses of info that might help you.

Best wishes

Gill

HI Ali

Where is Leeming?
I cant afford to spend $AU 600 a week. I am coming over with minimal funds! I have seen some of the trailer parks on the internet and based on what I have seen can imagine the sort that live there and what goes on..........being a probation officer I have seen it all haha.
This is the 2nd time I am moving country - you think I would have learnt by now!!

Thanks
Simone

Leeming is south of river, surrounding suburbs are Bull Creek, Willeton, Murdoch, Jandakot. It's 10 mins from the city by train and 20 mins to Freo. The kids used to love caravan holidays in the UK and we thought we'd still do them here .... errr no way - being a probation officer you'll probably be able to imagine it!!.

Have you looked on Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au our rental was pricey but classed as a holiday rental I think, but worked out as we didn't have any utility bills during that time, plus internet access.
