We have been offered a house to rent in Baldivis near Rockingham when we first arrive and are keen to hear from anyone from the uk who has emigrated and living in the Baldives area need to know what your thoughts are on schools and shopping and general info on settling in that area.

Thanks for your time

Hi Paul and Tracey

We've been living in Port Kennedy since January this year. I don't know Baldivis very well, but hear a lot of good stuff about it; nice houses, semi-rural in parts, great shopping centre and schools. The only down side I've heard is that it gets really hot in summer as the cooling sea breeze doesn't make it that far inland (not that it's that far really!) We thought about moving there, but have decided to stay in Port Kennedy as we prefer to be closer to the beaches.

Last time I looked at houses there they started at about $370,000 (a very rare find!) to 'the sky's the limit' type places. There's a lot of building going on there as I understand it.

My OH works in Canning Vale - he's a Technician working with Air Compressors. It takes him about 40 minutes from Port Kennedy to Canning Vale, so it'd take you OH a bit less from Baldivis as it's closer to the freeway.

We've had a few 'teething problems' settling in, but we're getting there. People are generally really friendly and the whole area is full of Poms all in the same boat!

Just being nosey - Where in Leicestershire are you from? We're from Nuneaton/Atherstone, just on the Leics border.

Feel free to PM me, if I can help I will.

All the best with everything - let us know when you're on your way!

Bye for now

Jo

I believe Baldivas is known in the south, like Quins Rocks and Butler in the North, and whilst initially, (12months ago?) was classed as desirable, is now looked upon (due to UK hoodies) as being not quite so pleasant...

The Picketts is an unknown quantity at this point
I haven't really seen any 'hoodies' around - well, not like those in the UK anyway. Those I have seen have been quite young and with their families and it has turned quite chilly this last week or so!

I live in Waikiki and like to use the new shopping centre at Baldivis - it is spacious, clean and isn't crowded. Settlers Hills looks lovely and there is so much new development going on in the vicinity. I have heard that it is hotter up there even though it is only a couple of miles further inland from us. It is very close to the new railway station and the freeway is on the doorstep. All in all it looks like a nice place to live.

hi,
just wanted to let you know that Baldivis is a really lovely area, it is very new and upcoming, it has shops etc close to hand and it is only 5-10 mins from lots of beaches, Rockingham is the main suburb and it has a shopping centre that is being extended at the moment to include more shops and a huge cinema, the beach there is lovely too. i live quite close to Baldivis in a suburb called Leda. there will be a local school that is possibly quite new due to the age of the area, if i could have afforded to then i would have lived there, its lovely !!
