OH MY!!!!! Just when I thought we had made our minds up.
we are applying for a 176 state sponsorship visa and will shortly need to tell our agent which state we would be looking to move to.
It has always been between the Gold Coast (Queensland) and WA/Perth, but the Gold Coast seems to be winning hands down with the younger family members at the moment!!!!
I posted a thread on the Queensland Forum yesterday and got lots of good advice on good places to live on the Gold Coast.
However the question Perth or the Gold Coast has raised it's head once again!!!!!
With two young children, there are so many priorities to take in to consideration, but we will also need to know (assuming we're lucky enough to get through the process ) what the job prospects are like out there. Eammon is a carpenter which is on the MODL list but we were wondering if anyone could offer any information as to what might be the best areas around WA to consider taking all of this into consideration.
We're also under the impression that the cost of living and house prices are highter in WA than on the Gold Coast?
Grateful for any advice
Just wanted to say hi we are also applying for 176 state sponsorship (hopefully if OH has passed Vetassess) and we are going to Perth. We have friends there who absolutely love it and say its brill for kids too but I agree a lot of people say that the Gold Coast is great too - have you been on holiday to either of them ? Just wanted to say good luck for whatever you decide.
No we haven't been on holiday to either, but up to about two hours ago when I thought we had made up our minds, we were planning a reccie to the Gold Coast in the summer to check out areas, etc.
We too have friends who moved across to Perth and they also love it.
Good luck with your VETASSESS results. Did your OH sit the practical last week? What is his job.
Our agent lodged our paper assessment today, so fingers crossed we'll be on the July assessments
hi yes my OH did his vetassess last Tuesday he is an Electrician we should have results by Fridaywhat about you (sorry noticed your OH is a Carpenter). We are hopefully going on hols after we have applied for visa if everything goes ok, we have never been before either its really scary but exciting isnt it. I hope your paper assessment goes okay, good luck . Have you got children if so what do they think about moving ?
Yes we have two girls - 6 and 12 and they are both well excited by the prospect of moving to Australia - although not sure if Grace (6) fully understands it all really!!! How about you?
Its weird how something so scary can be so exciting at the same time - I just want to be as sure as I can be that's all. Schools, etc are obviously really important, but so is being able to pick up work once we get out there.
Let us know how your results go once you receive them - good luck
I know what you mean I have a son 12 and daughter 9, my son really does not want to go he will really miss friends and family, jess wants to go now. I will let you know how we get on, the waiting has to be the worst. Take care, speak soon. Sharon
It really is personal choice, I visited my brother in QLD - loved Australia and Brisbane but we decided WA would suit us better. Have you looked on seek.com for availability of jobs? There are so many nice areas of WA that would suit everyone depending on your needs - lots of new houses, lots of old houses, new estates and established suburbs. WA house prices are higher than QLD but it's reported that's slowing down, as QLD house prices are on the rise.
That's great - thank you. I will certainly check out those web sites.
Could I just ask you one thing - The Gold Coast looks as though there would be plenty to do for our younger members of the family. What about Perth and it's surrounding areas? We are hoping to move to Autralia for a more laid back lifestyle, but at the same time we don't to go anywhere that is so remote, the girls will be pulling their hair out - decisions decisions!!!!!
What are you looking for? We have the most beautiful beaches, dolphins, whiteman park is brilliant for young and old alike. We don't have the theme parks of QLD, but we'll go over east to do that with the children for a holiday. My two are content with visits to Adventure world here in Perth. For everyday stuff - parks and beaches are plentiful - point heathcote in Melville has a great play area, wirless Hill too (these are near me). We've been to Bussleton and Yallingup which are beautiful, but by all acounts so is Dunsbourough, Albany and all those places further south. My kids love Freo and the maritime museum (I like the market!!)
We find it is quite laid back here and personally don't feel that we are isolated or remote. Don't know how old your two are, but mine are 13 and 8 - my daughter goes horseriding once a week, plus sometimes does trekking at weekent, my son is playing soccer (open to girls) and Basketball at the moment - lots of sports teams around.
We only live 10 mins from the city and 20 mins from a beach - ideal for us.

Sounds fabulous! To be honest we're not really into the theme park thing!!!! We might like to go once in a while, but I just want somewhere that hasn't got a 100mph pace. I guess it's important that there are parks, etc for the girls to play and they are both keen to live near the beach!!!
They are aged 6 and 12 and Kerry (12) is really sporty. She plays football, cricket, rounders, netball, you name it and if I the mention dolphins to both of them will just win it over!!!!
Thanks for the advice on the area's - It really helps when you can actually have a look at specific area's in and around Perth. How about schools - any info you can share on those?
