The aussiemove site I mentioned also has links to schools, we also found that the beautiful sounding peppermint park had homes over $2 million - so we reluctantly crossed that off our list lol.

In mandurah the dolphins come into the Estuary - my in laws really liked it down there. Kerry will be spoilt for choice - she really can play anything she likes here in Oz - not so sure how laid back you'll find it being a taxi service but she'll have a whale of a time. I'm sure other people can give you some idea of life here. We really do feel more relaxed , and seem to have such a greater quality of family life (although I'm sure people all over Oz will say that).

My daughter goes to Leeming High School and is really enjoying it, My son is at Leeming Primary and loves school so much he didn't want to be on holiday (a first for our family I can tell you).

Good luck in your decision - not an easy one, but I'm sure you'll all be ok wherever you decide.

Ali

Thanks ever so much - you have been a real great help. I think you have sold the Perth lifestyle to me. I will just check out jobs on the website you gave me.

Hi Ali

I just wanted to say thanks for all your advice - it was really appreciated. Just to let you know we have made the decision to try for Perth! I am in the process of filling in the WA State Sponshorship Forms as we speak.

Hi Tony & Dee

Thanks also for your comments - It looks as though we have made the decision that Perth is for us - Just hope Perth wants us now!!!!

Ali,

Hi, your description is wonderful, how far are you to Fremantle?
Are there any other nice suburbs around close to Fremantle which you would recommend?

Hi Alison,

BullCreek Bob, is probably one to ask about suburbs and also bobcat - I think that they've probably forgotton more than I know lol. We're a 20 min drive away from Freo, 17 mins from the beach (yes sad I know but we did time it one Sunday lol). I live in Leeming, which is near BullCreek, Willeton, Murdoch, Kardinya, Jandakot - all nice suburbs. Freo is expensive to live, I recently went on a course in East Freo - it's beautiful but median house prices are about $953.000. (and out of my range unless I win the lotto). Now the train line is up and running, we're also only 10 mins by train into the city from Murdoch station, it takes you right into the heart of the city. I think the surrounding suburbs are Beaconsfield, Samson, Hamilton Hill and Palymyra but I don't know much about them

Denise
I'm glad that my information was helpful

Perth

I have to agree with Ali on Perth.
We live south of river and only 5 mins from the beach. If you have a young family then WA is the perfect start .
Perth has the best climate for all of Suburban Aus,having just had the hottest summer for 30 years.and boy has it been hot.
In reply to the Fremantle bit,Port coogee is an up and coming suberb on the outskirts of Fremantle and is in the process of having a marina built there so will soon be like Mandurah and Mindarie( hopefully).
Looking forward to many more Xmas days on Warnbro Beach.

Hi Ali thanks for your info about Perth, we have decided to definately go to Perth (if they will have us) we hopefully are going to Mandurah and really like the look of Falcon, its nice to hear that people with children settle ok, I have a son of 12 and daughter of 9, my son really does not want to go (miss friends and family etc) but he is very sporty so I am sure he will be fine, its just another worry on top of all the others. Thanks for a great post it makes me realise that we are doing the right thing.

My daughter had the same anxieties (she was 11 at the time of the move), The principle of the school set her up with a pen pal, so she'd 'know' someone (so to speak) when she arrived. My son was 7 and took to Aus like a duck to water, in fact my aussie neighbours say he must have been an Australian in a previous life. You really can't go wrong for sport - the only problem will be fitting everything in. Both my children settled in well, Alex is still in contact with the friends that meant most to her, via msn, webcam etc., (a good investment). Within a short time, she said she didn't miss people quite as much as she thought she would. There are always new people starting at school, and Alex said the boys were just as friendly as the girls.

Good luck

Ali x
