we have lived in Dalyellup for just over 6 months, and love it. it has 1 primary school at the moment and a second planned within next couple of years. the one built has kindy also.It is a brilliant school, and our 9 year old loves it, we have a 3;5 year old too who will be starting kindy in February, andf he already likes the school. There is also a daycare centre,a before and after school centre and playgroup. We also have free events like movies etc
Dalyellup is a lovely place too, most of it has been built but patches on work are still going on.
Its close to the beach, there are lots of clubs in dalyellup for all ages, eventually it will also have its own shopping centre.
Bunbury is about ten minutes away, this is also a lovely place and a city in its own right even though its a small one, however it has everything you could want. There is nearly always something going of down here,
yes its around 2 hours away from Perth, but its easy enough to get to for a visit.
Don't know much about Secret Harbour, we've drove through it once and didn't make much of it. We never got out the car though because we were heading back home but did a detour to see it.
If you want to know any more about Bunbury feel free to pm us

Hi Laura
I've been to Bunbury a couple of times although the last time was three years ago and I posted a reply to a similar thread a while back which I'll paste to give you another opinion for what it's worth.
Don’t know anything about Dalyellup but I’ve relatives in Australind which is the other side of Bunbury so I can only give you an opinion based on my short visits… they are very settled in Australind.. about 15 mins drive into Bunbury - no traffic jams there as I remember!
Further north around SH, Halls Head has nice older more established housing, Dudley Park is nice, look at Meadow Springs or Silver Sands which is the ocean side of the road but I imagine house prices have rocketed since I was there. My uncle tells me Secret Harbour is still a lovely area too along with Port Kennedy, in a good position between Mandurah and Rockingham to enjoy their facilities. Looking back I'd say SH was a little bit too legolandish for me but some people like that.
Bunbury is a city in its own right, it’ll have everything you need without having to go to Perth that often and away from the congestion in Perth. The schools seem good, it has a University campus as well as Tafe and is an up-and-coming place due to lots of development over recent years, Bunbury Regional Hospital looks modern and has a good reputation. Easy access to the south... Busselton and Margaret River are great for days out.
The town centre used to be a bit tatty I thought but last time there I thought it was quite attractive and gracious. House prices should be lower than Perth. There was a new waterside area being developed (which should be finished now!), restaurants and cafes etc... was looking good. Don’t know much about the different suburbs apart from Australind which is on the estuary, lovely laid back place, small shopping centre, good new leisure centre and no one seems in a rush. My cousin has two young children at Australind Primary and is very happy with it. I would say Bunbury/Australind is very suitable families with younger children.
I wouldn’t choose Bunbury myself, it’s a quiet town and although I think it’d be great for my three younger children 10, 8 & 8… my two teenagers 15 & 17 would I think prefer Perth for obvious reasons! I think it's more about how you live your life rather than where you happen to live. I've lived in Perth before but personally wouldn't choose to live there again. As you know another person will have completely different views so there really is only one way to find out... Good Luck!
We got back from Bunbury a few weeks ago. We hired a car and drove through many places on our way to Bunbury including Rockingham, Mandurah, Fremantle, Secret Harbour. When we got to Bunbury we knew straight away that it has everything we are looking for. It isn't a huge place but does not seem to lack anything. After much research we have settled for Dalyellup which is about 6 or 7 miles out of Bunbury. The houses are mainly 4 bed/2 bathroom and you get more for your money being just outside Bunbury centre. The beach is literally on the edge of the housing estate and there is parkland and a lake in the centre of the estate. It is quiet but that doesn't matter as Bunbury is just ten minutes away in the car. Also you could consider the AUSTRALIND
We also live in Dalyellup and we love it here as it has everything we need and hardly ever go up to Perth, just go up to visit our friends who live in Canning Vale and love coming back home. We haven't got kids but it would be a great place to bring them up and we've made lots of friends including Kevin & Dawn. Life here is so laid back and Bunbury is thriving at the moment and there are lots more plans to develop the waterfront so it should be fantastic when its finished as it will bring more businesses and people this way.
Within an hours drive south you are in Cape Naturliste, Margaret River blah blah blah and the beaches and countryside are absolutely beautiful down there. Then again the beaches in Bunbury are brilliant and have free bbq's, park areas etc.
We have just applied for Andy's de facto spouse visa so hopefully it will go through OK. Hope to see you out there in Bunbury at the end of October all being well!!
We are planning to stay on the Glades caravan park for the first month!Fell in love with Dalyellup but need to sell our house like everyone else on here!

Its a great time of the year to arrive as we arrived on 4th October 2007 and it allowed us to acclimatise before the real summer began. Brings jackets for the evenings when you first arrive but you won't need them for long as it really warms up by end of November.
We've just bought in Dalyellup we love it so much and our house should be built by September and we can't wait.
Good luck with the house sale, fingers crossed it sells soon for you. If you've got any questions feel free to ask.
Hi - tis my first post on this site.
I moved to Australind in November last year with my two teenage children. We love it here and have all settled really quickly. we are close enough to get into Bunbury which has everything you would need on a weekly basis. I travelled into Perth last week and it couldnt have been easier. We drove to Mandurah train station (45mins) and then got the train into the city (again about 45 mins).
Yesterday we drove an hour south to Margaret River area and the beautiful wilder coast line round there. I really believe that Bunbury area has the best of both worlds xx
Of course Laura plainly made a typing error and I am plainly having a bit of a laugh, so come down off that high horse for goodness sake and hope that at least Laura has a sense of humour.
I haven't got a clue abour Bunbury, or Banbury, constructive, useful or otherwise... they had a Dunkin Donuts in the shopping centre when I was there, and the Army Surplus has a good range of Rossi boots... 'do they not'?
Don't assume anything about anything... talk about power gone to the head!! I'm sure that Laura is probably able to find helpful links about Bunbury herself and that others - me not included I afraid to say - will be able to offer the necessary advice.... (Laura, please don't start checking your spellings... get it wrong on purpose, it's more fun!!)

I will try and hide this post from OH as he loves Bunbury and is trying to pursuade me that this is the place to go. I would rather go to Mandurah as its nearer the city but his heart is Bunbury. Must admit it was nice but just feel its too far away from City.
