Australia Needs Skills...but not IT Professionals!

Hiya;

Got back last night from a very disappointing trip to Australia House - expectations raised and dashed..not even a sniff of beach life...the reason I'm a qualified IT Service Manager not a builder, plasterer, car mechanic etc etc.. it's clear Ausrtalia Needs Skills but not Service Managers...so I need your HELP!!

Lets start with the basics..ANY IDEAS ? Thanks

try Seek employment website they are always looking for IT professionals on there.

Our friends are going to Brisbane in September and have been told they are desperately short of IT people over East, maybe you should try East instead of West Australia.

I can reassure you they need IT professionals in WA as the internet is so damn slow and not up to much in the regions it drives the OH crazy. Have loads of problems with it so reckon you should approach Bigpond, Westnet, Optus, Virgin, 3 or any of the providers as reckon they need sorting out big time.

Good luck in your pursuit - if you can't get here on a skilled visa try the sponsorship route and then apply for a permanent visa when you get here.

Hi
I am also a service manager working on Scotland but hoping to go to oz 12 - 18 months. I have been looking on careerjet.com and also jobserve.com.au and have seen many service management jobs, sometimes under a different title so expand the search options.

Good luck..

Hi!

My OH is an IT Service Manager, he is just doing the job hunt thing, we move out at the end of June.

I came across LUCID IT, consulting company in service management - have a look, it may be of some help.

OH has also been in touch with agencies in Oz, and they told him there are more jobs then people.

Good luck with your search!

Hi Big J

I am not certain of this but think that you can still have your trade assessed regardless of if you have any formal trade papers.

If you get letters from your employers from the beginning of your work experience up until now which proves you have spent a number of years in a trade & had on the job training in the past the assessors will count this as your training/proof that you are a tradesman. Things may have changed since we arrived though so it may be worth phoning a visa consultant to ask if this is still the case. I can recommend Ian Harrop & Associates who were very helpful when we were coming 10 years ago.

You may find more specific information from the immigration web site

Department of Immigration and Citizenship

Good luck dont loose hope I think you may be ok if you can get the right advice
