Areas in or around Perth. Advice?
Hello all . We are a family of 4 having 2 boys age 5 and 8 months and are currently going through the process to move to Australia. Perth is becoming our number one choice of area but wondered if anyone could give us a little bit more advice and guidance on this. What's hot and what's not, so to speak. We are planning a trip to come over but our biggest fear is getting the area right. We are looking for good schools and a great sociable community. Can anyone help?

What you're after sounds like most of WA. It really is hard to chose from the UK (unless you know someone in a particular area). Have you looked at Australia migration - suburb profiles, accommodation, schools, real estate, jobs in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin and Hobart this gives you a list of suburbs, average house prices and links to schools. What some like in an area, others don't, some want to live within walking distance of a beach and others don't mind being a bit further away. e.g. I didn't want a long commute to work and it had to be accessable for my hubby's work too. If you're coming to look round, have a short list of areas you want to look at.

Good Choice
Hi guys,
Good choice in moving to Perth. I moved to Perth about 6 years ago and have found the lifestyle and quality of life so much better than Scotland. I have lived in a few diffirent suburbs, North Perth, Subiaco (quite expensive) and Wanneroo. North of the river is full of Brits, suburbs like Joondalup, Beldon, Wanneroo, Padbury, Iluka and Clarkson. The last year or so have seen rents rise quite substantially and you would be looking at a rental price of $350 for a nice 4x2 home to live in, still a lot cheaper than the UK though. Rockingham also has a large percentage of folk from the UK and it now has a direct train link to Perth, approx 35mins and is cheaper for rent. If your looking at buying or renting i have found the best website to be Real Estate, Property, Land and Homes for Sale, lease and rent - realestate.com.au . Hope this helps.

Moving to Perth
Hi All,
Yesterday I had a job offer for Perth, I like the Gill Family would be very interested in advice regarding decent areas and schools. We are probably coming out in 12months, although are trying to get a holiday trip before to research houses, areas and schools

hi
We in a short term rental in Clarkson in the North, we are lookin for a rental when our stuff comes over going to look south of river as start work in Henderson Tues only a 42 mile drive from here but its nice to drive. Wife is a nurse at a hossy in perth Charlies so a move further south is more advantageous to us both. The aussie rental system as i believe you have to view the property before they will let you lease ( a good wedge of money up front also helps alot). Rentals vary in price according to suberb same as Uk really

Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I am also a nurse but am not sure which which hospital I am going to be working! I hear a lot of north and south of the river chat. What are the advantages or disadavnatages of either?
Thanks

They make the north - south of river sound like the war of the roses - the best place to live is where you think you'll be happy!! I think at the moment house prices are still a little cheaper in the south. I'm south of river (but only just) as I'm only a 10 min train ride to the city. We picked this location because of jobs - I'm a community mental health nurse and got a job in Armadale (south east) and my hubby works all over but his base is Malaga (that's north of river and not in Spain lol).
Have a look around and see where you like - you'll fall in love with somewhere
