Red face Primary School Age

Please help. My daughter will be 5 in June and is due to start school in August in Scotland. I have heard that children dont start school until 6 1/2 in Perth Austrailia. Is this true? Does anyone know when she would start Year 1? Many Thanks

As long as she has turned 5 by 30 June she will go into Preprimary which is the first year of full time primary school. Year 1 is the second year of school. They have to be in full time school by the time they are 6.6 which is where the 6.6 comes into it. They can be 4.6 when they start school. The school year starts in January.
Early Childhood Education

Edited to say, if you were to arrive tomorrow your daughter would be in preprimary so year 1 January 2009

Full time school when she is 5.5 - she just misses the cut off point - which all depends on which state you are heading for. If you are going to SA the rules are different but I wont confuse you with them if you arent going to SA!!!

Generally the year before full time school is a non compulsory part time option so she would be able to attend that. Different states have different names for their early childhood years and even their first year of full time school - incredibly confusing! A little bit of national standardisation would be really sensible but each of the states believes their way is best and they dont want to budge!
