hi. we went to australia last christmas for our honeymoon. we stayed with friends in the hills outside of perth for the first part of our trip. they live in kalamunda which we loved but it is a bit expensive. we had a look round the surrounding areas (forrestfield, lesmurdie, maida vale, high wichombe, gooseberry hill etc) and they all looked great. we loved it that much that we decided to apply for a visa as soon as we got back! i found a great website - realestate.com.au which has a good search facility. prices seem to vary depending on suburb but as a guide $400,000 to $500,000 should get you a very nice 4 bed 2 bath home. if i could afford it i would definately live in kalamunda.

Have a look on Australia migration - suburb profiles, accommodation, schools, real estate, jobs in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin and Hobart it will give you a list of suburbs (and profile), approx distance from the city and average house prices.
