hello, thinking of moving to perth, and im a keen surfer i was hoping of getting some info of the beaches in perth area that are good for surfing, and also what the house prices are like in those areas? being a bricklayer with young children i was hoping of getting advice of good areas to live.also thinking of brisbane, which area is best for surf and work? many thanks
Perth has got some great beaches with quiet a few of them that are good for surfing, Trigg beach even has a surf school try Surfing Australia. South of Perth you have got Margaret River town which again has great surf.
thanks for your help, are the surfing beaches always heaving in this area? or is there plenty sea for everyone? is there any problems with localism? thank you
Not sure if I can answer all the questions. The OH and I did a beginners surfing course at Trigg beach whilst I was doing part of my university degree in Perth. There was plenty of room and never encountered any problems but then again it was 8 am in the morning! We got talking to a plumber who was finishing of the studio flat that we were renting and he went surfing everyday after work!
Trigg beach is about 20-30 mins from Perth. Perth is slightly inland on the Swan / Canning River so you will have to travel to the beach but there are plenty of good beaches near by i.e Scarborough (although the houses are a little run down in this area - got good surf shops though). Joondalup is good it is were the university is located + the Police training academy, Cotesloe - very trendy and expensive place to live. There are new suburbs being built and with the train line being extended north and south of Perth there are plenty of places to choose from, a lot will depend on your price bracket and location of work.
im a bricky and looking to move, so i woudnt want to travel to far to get to work, 30 may be 40 minutes max, but also i would want the best area i could afford, but the area looks massive!! im just looking for stating point really!!

Hi Pirate willy,
I.m a nurse in Perth and have moved here in sept 07 with the missess and my young kids. I go surfing in Secret Harbour which is 45 min drive south of here(Yangebup). We are also about 40 min south of the northern surf beaches of Trigg and Scarborough so depending on the conditions. Margaret River is 4 hours or so drive south and has some of the best waves in the world (the whole region of margaret river has many different point and beach breaks and is a gr8 spot to travel down to from Perth at weekends. Rottnest Island is not only very picturesque but has some brill surf spots to choose from and if you dont get a surf you.ll catch your dinner with a rod and bait. To be honest you can live anywhere in Perth and your never that far from the beach but some certain ones are surfable. Freo (Fremantle)is a great place to live and only 10 minutes drive to local beaches which in winter can produce some very decent waves with the right offshore winds. Secret Harbour is also good to live and friend of mine lives down there - you can get nice 4 bed 2 bathroom house for under $400,000 with new shopping centre, beach right there and a really nice golf course beside the beach. Check out realestate.com.au for heaps of homes for sale in every perth surberb. Good luck. Paul
yeah thanks alimar, i have been looking into the perth area, and the more i look the more i like! how crowded does does the surf get? is there loads of waves to go around? because i have heard that gold coast gets hectic!! what beaches are there for the bigginers in the perth area? and how different is it to the UK? thanks
My hubbie goes to the beach after we pick the kids up from school and he goes to Yanchep, the beaches here are emptymost of the time as there are so many of them. Even though places look far away on the mapsit is very deceptive. We live in Ashby and it is 15 minutes to Mullaloo Beach where he takes the kids.
