I live near Willeton, it's an older more established suburb, very nice, excellent schools and facilities. Great location: 15 mins city 20 mins Freo

It's not an area I personally would choose to live in................ that being simply because I prefer to live north of the river. Nevertheless; I am sure all the people living there really love it although our relatives have just moved to Winthrop as they got fed up of living in Willetton................ they were too close to the shopping centre and the noise it attracts at night?

For your info............... here are some facts and figures re Willetton :

his leafy residential suburb lies about 12km directly south of Perth and roughly the same distance east of Fremantle. Pleasant and decidedly middle-class, Willetton has the busy little Jandakot Airport directly to its south and the Canning River, which feeds into the Swan River to the north-west, to its north.

The Leach Highway makes the trip into Fremantle a doddle for Willetton’s residents and it's not much more trouble for them to reach Perth’s CBD via the nearby Kwinana Freeway.

Willetton is also surrounded by golf courses - Melville Glades, Riverton and Whaleback - and the big Murdoch University is within easy striking distance. The university, which sits on 254ha of prime land, was named after Sir Walter Murdoch (1874-1970), a prominent Australian academic and essayist who was Chancellor of the University of Western Australia between 1943 and 1948.

The second university to be established in Western Australia and the 17th in Australia, Murdoch University was constituted on July 25, 1973. In 1975, its inaugural year, the university enrolled 672 undergraduate students, and had six professors. Today, Murdoch offers more than 50 undergraduate programs, has more than 11,000 students and employs 50 professorial staff.

Willetton Population: 17,745
Distance from Perth GPO (13 km's)
Median House Price: $480,000 (Year to Sep 2007)
Schools: Castlereagh School, Willetton, Rostrata Orana Catholic, Burrendah Primary School, Rossmoyne Snr High School, Willetton Senior High School Shops: Southlands Boulevarde
Train Stations: No train service
Bus Services: Local bus service

Hope this helps?

Johnno

Hi Lisa,
Willeton and Leeming are neigbouring suburbs - I don't think I'd live right near the shopping centre as it also houses the cinema too so could imagine it gets a bit noisy. On a Sunday, it takes us 15 mins to drive to the beach in Freo, Leeming is also on the new train line with Murdoch being our station and the journey into the city by train is 10 mins (brings you right out at the shops). Like Willeton it's an older, leafy well established suburb which is predominantly middle class, not a lot of low cost housing in the area that i'm aware of. We stumbled on Leeming by chance, and loved it - although we did want to live south of the river and the drive to work for me (Armadale and Kelmscott Hospital) is only 20 mins. We don't get troubled by any aircraft noise from Jandakot airport at all. Lots of amenities, rec centre, shops, etc.,

You've also got Bull Creek as a neigbouring suburb too.

Ali

Willeton and Leeming are nowhere near the beach, definitely not within walking distance.
