Having paid a brief visit to Geograph Bay - I can tell you it's one of the most beautiful spots i've been too. You'll probably get the 'country' feel you're looking for. I certainly aim to pay a few more visits.

I just want PIO to be a happy place where people are nice to each other and unicorns poop rainbows

Hi there,
Just spotted that you are actually current in Gera. I have recently been offered work there, on the corner of Urch & Phelps, and was wondering if you could give some feedback on them and the area.
I understand it is a quiet place...but I grew up in a fishing village in Scotland so that I am used to!! My real concerns are:
a) Is there enough there to occupy a 5 year old?
b) Is there the chance of work for my wife (to occupy her!)? She is a hairdresser but will do anything to fill her days.
c) Areas to live in/avoid?
d) Schools good or bad?
e) Is a retail therapy trip to Perth on a semi-regular basis for the wife do-able?
and I know folk reading this will think I am nuts for asking....I cannot find ANY rugby in the town!! Is there? or do you think they would be receptive to someone bringing the sport to them? I coach a half decent level over here and it is my way of relaxing.
I am keen on the job, but will be tied to the area for 4 years (457) and don't want to stagnate. But, worse would be if the OH and little 'un couldn't handle it!
Any advice is truly appreciated,
Thanks, Mac.

Hi there are a few places of work on phelps so would have to know abit more ,as for hairdressers they are always advertising and we could do with some good ones up here.there is a lot of things for the little one clubs to join swimming ,gymnastics ,plus other sporty things.places to live would be seacrest, wandina ,mt tarcoola ,tarcoola beach ,cape burney, bluff point, there is drummonds aswell but no school nearby there. mt tarcoola is a good school any others would not know ,perth is 4 hrs away thats not stopping at all.rugby no not that i know of they may appreiciate it i could not say i know they would in perth lots of english there.it is quiet here but supposed to be getting bigger with the oakajee mine opening sometime, the houseprices will then get very pricey hope this helps sue.

Hi Sue,
Thank you very much for the information it really is appreciated, Midwest Auto as a mechanic is what I am up to. My wee one is into her ballet here...so hopefully she can transfer that enthusiasm into something like gymnastics...OH is happy and getting ready to pack her curlers for the journey. I know rugby is growing in Perth..and was hoping to get into one of the garages there...but, beggars can't be choosers...so it is looking very much like Geraldton. Now going to look at rentals in the areas you mentioned.
Again, many thanks for the advice,
Mac

Hi there. i am waiting to hear from ARG, the railway company, who have been interviewing here in the UK for freight drivers. It appears the only depot on offer is Geraldton, so there may be a few Poms rolling in after Christamas. (think it will be a temperature shock!)

Hopefully joining ARG aswell..so best pack them lead boots as don`t want to be blown away by that wind!...looks like refuge will be sought in on of them forementioned pubs!

Hi Guys, my hubby's just gone for the ARG jobs and hoping to hear soon. I know the above post is a while ago but myself and 2 daughters were wondering particularly about the retail therapy here! but also the serious stuff (best places to live etc) so I was wondering if anyone was able to update it?
Has anyone else been on woolworths to do a weekly shop? I thought it was really expensive!
cheers
