heading for Perth

Hello Australia !

We are currently going through the 457 visa application ,alls going well, looking to be in Perth in April/ May time and can not wait.

We would welcome advice on areas to live that would be village like, near to beach, nice schools for three boys Primary age.

Looking forward to making new lives and new friendships.

See you soon

Hi The Squires

Welcome to Poms In Oz.

Perth is a big place where is your work going to be based? Lots of great areas all within 30 mins from beaches. Depends wether your wanting to go NOR or SOR. Cant help with primary schools but i'm sure someone will. There are a few Perthies on here that will be willing to help you including me all from different areas. Any questions about 457 feel free to ask.

Welcome Again

Janette

Hi

We are going through the same process at the moment and looking to be in Perth by April / May.

If you take a look at some of the posts I've started you'll find some really good info from the guys already out there.

If you want to we can keep in touch and share some of the info as and when we find it.

Take care

Mike & Sharon

G'day & welcome

Perth doesn't do or have "village" life. It doesn't even have much of an urban town/city based lifestyle. What it does have is suburban life. The suburbs of Perth spread along more than 100kms of the coastline and stretch inland by between 20kms and 40kms.

Your choice of suburb near to the beach will be dictated by your budget. The less money you have the further towards the outskirts (North or South) you will need to be and the less facilities like shops/doctors/schools/restaurants will exist.

Hiya,
We are livivng in a suburb of Rockingham which is about a 40 mins drive from Perth ( SOR - South of the River ).
Port Kennedy is lovely, there are quite a few poms here. We are about 10 mins drive from the beach, but if you lived on the opposite side then the beach can be within walking distance, this does affect the prices of property tho. My daughter is 5 yrs old and starts pre-primary this Feb in our local school, it is just an 8-10 mins walk from our home. Pre-primary means that she will be full-time from Feb, yippee!!! I am very happy with the school so far their website is :: Rockingham Lakes Primary School ::, take a look at their web page.
We have a shopping centre just up the road which has everything you will need for day to day living, there are a few doctors surgeries and dentists close at hand too. It is about a 15 minute drive into the centre of Rockingham which has a bigger shopping centre and many stores in and around the area for your home needs.
The foreshore ( Beachfront ) in Rockingham is very pretty with cafes dotted along the front, there are many parks and picnic areas on the front too.
I hope this info is helpful to you. As people have said that there are many suburbs like this, but as a family of 2 children, my son is 2yrs old, Rockingham / Port Kennedy has everything for us as a family and we love it, we have been here just over 12 months ourselves!! Good Luck!!!

Hi and Welcome to PIO,
Us perthites are glad you've choosen Perth - I think it's a beautiful place. Been here 12 months, very settled, 2 children both of who have done a year in primary here (my daughter will go to high school this year), without any problems.

WA is so vast and everyone will chose somewhere different. We're in Leeming which is 15 mins from the city (10 if we get the train), and 20 mins from Freo

have a look on aussiemove.com which will give you an idea where suburbs are in relation to each other also average house prices and links to schools in those areas.

All the best

Ali

Hi Guys
I think you are best to go and rent to start with that way you can have a good look round. We went last year for a month and its so vast but as you drive round you do get a feel for different suburbs.
