Have you thought of contacting the West Australian Newspaper? It's available on line and they may run a story for you.

Hi Mick

Welcome to Poms in Oz.

This is long shot, but please see this link:

http://www.saltersboats.com/

There is a photo of Peter Hammond, who owns Salters Boats in Fremantle, it seems. His blog speaks of many years experience with commercial fishing, which might - just might - suggest a hook-up with Grimsby, perhaps?

Also, although it is impossible to be sure from the two pix, there might be similarlities in the facial features? The nose looks roughly the same in both pix, ditto hair, and maybe also the quite square jaw?

I found him via using Google Australia and telling it to search Australian web pages only. Then I told it Peter Hammond + Perth. LOADS of links came up so it woould be worth your while to repeat the search. However, generally, people who are involved with boats have been so since a young age.

Best wishes

Gill

Hi there

Have you tried Genesreunited.co.uk? I have used that to trace my family tree back to the 1760's and lots of people seem to have gained contact with Aussie-based relatives through there.

Also, if you go to the "Community" pages, there are kindly souls on there who will help you find relatives if you are drawing a blank, some of them are professional genealogists.

Best of luck to you, let us know how you get on

Maybe google the Australian electoral roll? I understand that you have to vote in Australia, so he should therefore be on the electoral roll.

Good luck.
