Talking Where to live?

We may have a possible job offer for oh in Perth metro area as a field service and starting to look at possible areas to live if the job works out.
We love the sound of Bunbury with it's villagey, family orientated feel but obviously it might just be too far to travel each day but wondered if anybody could help with some coastal areas south of perth which is not too built up but has the essentials and safe to let 2 young boys be boys!!! Dave would be ok with up to an hour's travel each way by car.

So not too much to ask then???? Good, safe beach area with low crime, and good schools!!!!

Christmas cheer to all!!

I am not sure what the traveling time by car is from Bunbury to perth

But there is a new train service as far as Mandurah and that takes 48 mins and that
is only half the distance as Bunbury to perth.

Smile Thank you

thanks to all for your replies

realised that bunbury is going to be too far to travel everyday to perth but good for days out!!!

The company we're looking into sponsorship with mentioned port kennedy and rockingham to us and said they are similar to bunbury but a bit smaller. Just wondered if anybody knows about these areas and whether they are good or bad areas to look at??

Port Kennedy and Rockingham are nicknamed 'Little England' and there are alot of Brits there - this may be something you want - or it may be something that puts you off. There are lot of housing developemnts down that way, and my guess is that in time it will be as busy as everywhere else.

Have a look on Australia migration - suburb profiles, accommodation, schools, real estate, jobs in Perth, Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra, Darwin and Hobart as it will show you localities and approximate distances.

I don't know if that would put us off or not being in little britain. maybe to start with we'd appreciate it to meet people but we certainly wouldn't choose a place because of it being full of brits. we're going out to be part of oz and their way of life. It's the villagey way of life near the sea we're looking for. Coming from a big town here we don't want to be anyway busy in the hustle and bustle but not too far from small shops etc. Looking on maps there seems to be loads of villages/towns along the coast south of perth within an hour from perth around Fremantle, Rockingham and Mandurah but it's just knowing what they are like. I suppose little britain has grown because like us people don't want to be too close the centre, but near the beach but can't afford high prices. We'd rather be 5 10 minutes away from any sort of centre of a village than in the middle. Our wish list is a small village by the sea with essential shops close ish and safe for our boys to play!!!! Not too much to ask then????????????????

The Picketts is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi Donna - we live in the Rockingham area - along with a few other PiO's and love it. There are several areas around here that are 5-10 minutes to fabulous beaches, 5-10 minutes to the new train line stations with a 37 minute journey to the centre of Perth (which we used today for the first time and it was brilliant - an amazingly cheap compared to London where we used to live). There are a lot of Brits but there are lots of Ozzies too - and it does have a more village-type feel to it and as yet, is not just one huge housing development. Still lots of bush areas and the further south in WA you travel the more interesting the scenery becomes. Housing costs are still reasonable compared I think to NOR. Warnbro is nice as is Waikiki, Port Kennedy and then there is Secret Harbour. I am sure others here would agree and know more about schools etc as we are retirees and don't have too much contact with children now. Hope this helps. Cheryl

First post for me in ages but absolutlely concurr, there are those that go NOR and those that go SOR and never the twain shall meet. But tbh been here 5 weeks makes no bl**dy difference. Do the tour find what fits you and you are comfortable with and go for it cos we are all different. For us it was Secret harbour and we are only renting but i would never look back, for others it would be NOR but dont go for the "go NOR its brilliant and better or go SOR its even better than NOR'. Personally and this all I can speak from, we have a huge house 4 beds 90msq garden, ok no pool but right on the dunes 4 mins to beach and with 4 kids and wouldnt change it for the world. Its so not th Uk but has hints of it, find Spud Shed, Coles and Farmer Jacks and you will sus your shopping. For example some stuff is expensive generally processed and tinned stuff but if you go to farmer jacks baked beans 45c and taste like hienz if thats what you want. Spud Shed 4.5kg of fillet beef $42 now in my book thats a god damn bragain (soory one too many JDs). Or a full sirloin cut $48 and that would cost you 100gbp plus in the uk. Yes you have to shop aroun dif you want a cheap shop, if not just go to Coles or Woolworths if your used to Asda or Sainsbury's etc. Personally live to the country and your means get out and about and hunt down the bargains - we feed a family of 6 with 3 teenagers on a par with the uk but only ocos we are willing to move around when shopping and buy stuff where its cheap.

Anyhows enough of me sorry if I rabbited on if anyone wants anymore info hang on til the morning when I'm sober and Pm me...... love you all everyone here is ahuge help and amazing if your thinking of going go, if your in the process hang cos its awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
