Commuting into Perth

Hi All

Everything is going really well with the job offer and it looks like we'll be over about April/May.

I have a question about commuting into the centre of Perth; I'm currently travelling between 2 to 3 hours a day using public transport but I'm not sure yet what I'll be doing when we move.

So I'm looking for some pointers on which suburbs we should be looking at which would be inside a 2 to 3 hour radius of Perth CBD.

Thanks

Mike

By Train
Commuting from north of Perth
Esplanade 0:00
Perth 0:05
Leederville 0:08
Glendalough 0:11
Stirling 0:14
Warwick 0:18
Greenwood 0:21
Whitfords 0:24
Edgewater 0:27
Joondalup 0:30
Currambine 0:33
Clarkson 0:37

If you decide to live close to the beach Quinns beach then you have to catch a bus
There can be up to a 15-min wait for a bus and then an approx. 15-min journey.
So a total journey time to quinns beach of approx. 1 hour and 10 min.
There is a car park at clarkson but I think you have to pay a few dollars

I am unsure of the driving time

I will be in perth over christmas will get the current time tables
and current prices for parking etc.

G'uday Mike

Avoid driving into Perth if you can as the Freeway resembles a giant car park at peak hours both north and south; plus once you do get into Perth it's a bugger trying to find a good parking spot.

Train is by far the best option.................. but; trains are getting overcrowded with punters these days. Have no idea about suburbs south of the river but anywhere up north close to a train line will stand you in good stead. Biggest delay will be at the ticket machine working out how to operate same.............. once you've cracked that the trains run roughly every 10 minutes or so........... and the journey into Perth is roughly 20 minutes at most.

Best bet is to get on at Clarkson or Currambine at the top of the northerly end of the line.......... that way you get a seat as further down the track the train quickly fills up. Once in Perth there is a free CAT service; ire a complimentary bus run which should get you close to your destination depending on where it is you work.

You won't need to think in terms of 2 to 3 hours commuting time. Train stations are located up north at Whitfords, Edgewater, Joondalup, Currambine, and Clarkson now. Heaps of nice suburbs all within 10 minutes drive of said stations such as Mindarie, Iluka, Ridgewood, Connolly, Hocking, Woodvale, Regent Waters, Kingsley etc etc.

Hope this puts you in the picture?

The Picketts is an unknown quantity at this point
Hi - don't forget the new railway south of Perth to/from Mandurah - opened yesterday with trains running every 10 minutes at peak times. 34min journey from Warnbro or thereabouts which is where we live but there's Bull Creek only 8 minutes journey and I am sure Bull Creek Bob will be pleased to let you know how it is running.

All the best - Cheryl

Hi
Merry Christmas

Not sure yet as we're trying to come up with some ideas on which areas we would like to live in.
Mode of transport will depend on the business area that the company I'm going to work for will place me but I think it will be in the CBD so by the sounds of the other posts it looks like it's going to be the train

As Bob says, rush hour is terrible, I was on a course in Claremont in September and from where I live it should have been a 20 - 25 min journey, but in rush hour it took 45 - 50.

Hi Guys

I commute from Quinns rocks to the CBD by train.

Takes me about 8 minutes to drive to Clarkson and then about 35 minutes on the train to the CBD.

I think wherever you live you'll need to be quite some way out to be hitting your old UK traveling times

All the best

Mark
