Hi guys,
me and the hubby have decided on perth to emigrate to but wont be for another couple of years as im still training as a nurse, anyhow while we wait we like to keep up to date with everyone and everything keeps us with one hand still on the dream so to speak! so we were just wondering if anyone would fill us in on perth and all the things it has to offer?? whats shopping like (getting priorities right!!) sports, beaches things to do eating out etc etc? any info would be good to give us a picture of what were working for coz it seems so far away till we make itxxx
I only stayed in Perth for two months
I will try and sum up my impression what Perth is like in few sentences
If you have lived in London and want more of the same then move to Sydney.
Or Melbourne.
As for shopping i would say sydney or melbourne are probally a lot better
than perth.
But if you are used to or want a slower paced way of life then Perth is for
you.
Yes it does rain in Perth but usually only Jun & July
The rest of the year is sunny.
There are great beaches, parks etc
Kings Park in central Perth is worth a visit
In spring time plenty of open space for children to play
In the summer the temperature gets to 40 Deg
I was very tempted to settle in W.A but there are more jobs in my trade in
Melbourne.
thanx for taking the time to reply. weve found it a tough decision which city to pick although we knew we `didnt want syney mainly because of its expensive property market, and then we have swithered over perth, melboure and brisbane! We were put off brisbane due to the bad humidity and nights getting dark early, and with melbourne it was the 4 seasons and ridiculous cat laws that put off us there, so we looked into perth and it seems best for us, im just concerned how big or small perth is? i am from london originally so feel i need a decent sized city, but not the size of sydney!
I've been in WA since January, it is a rather slower pace here, but I never wanted to live in a place like London and the fact that we're the least populated state rather appealed to me (along with the weather). I'm not a major shopper - but near me there's garden city which has loads of shops etc., I've only managed to shop in the city twice and now that things are slowing down getting to know my city is one of the things I want to do.
There is loads to do in WA, lots of places to eat and great beaches. Go down to Rockingham and you'll be able to see the dolphins.
You can't go wrong for sport. My 8 year old has been able to keep up his soccer, will do aussie rules next year (as long as it doesn't clash with soccer) and is doing basketball camp in the summer hols. My daughter isn't as sporty but was encouraged to try out for the school netball team and she managed to get on the team. She loves horse riding and does lessons once a week.
We feel very content here and at this moment in time I can't imagine living anywhere else (I visited QLD and like you found it too humid and a little crowded).
You won't have a problem getting a job as a nurse at all
Good luck with your application and your plans - if you can afford it come to perth for a visit - you won't be disappointed.

thanx ali, think im just looking for reasurrance were going to the right place, were heading out for 3 weeks in june, and i know i,ll feel better after that !
Hi!..i'm sure you'll feel alot better once you've visited Perth and have a look around for yourself..i'm originally from Perth and we are going back next year again..i've lived in Sydney as well but i really love Perth myself..it is very flat (my OH couldn't believe how flat when we flew in!) and as you probably know..hot!..it's a small city, but there's plenty of places to shop & some beautiful and clean beaches (the whitest sand!)..i find the atmosphere is so relaxed even though it is a city..most Aus people are layed back and friendly anyways! I love the shopping forums..everything you need under one roof..my favourite places are Freo which is great for young people and the market is good..also Hillary's is a lovely Boat Harbour with plenty of places to eat and a beach..my favourite beaches are Scarborough and Cottesloe..we visited the Pinnacles a couple of times..huge pillars of sandstone and our kids sand 'surfed' there..loved it!..i'm sure you'll find your own favourite spots and i hope you enjoy visiting Perth and can make a decision..sorry if i've waffled..i just miss it alot! Pingpong
its good to hear from a 'natives' point of view! as i say its such a huge step and we just want to get there! and make sure its the right place, we really wanted to travel next year for 3 weeks but just dont think we can afford it! hence the reason we are making the decision now thanx for replying all info is much appreciated thanx x
I love reading people's view of the place we want to make our home - I have been feeling low over the past few days as our application is sitting on a DIAC decision makers desk just waiting for them to pick it up and say yes or no but due to the Xmas hols etc that wont be likely until sometime into January
Reading posts like these really cheer me up and keep me focused.
Hugs
Karen & Co xx
