Kelmscott - any opinions??

We have been constantly looking at different areas but, for some reason we keep coming back to Kelmscott. Why?
I have family in Thornlie and Gosnells but didnt fancy that area, we are looking for somewhere a bit more rural with a good community feel. We have looked into all areas around the hills, which looked lovely and perfect even out towards Mundaring.
I have read that there are some bad areas in Kelmscott - where are they? What are the schools like(2 girls 9 & 4) Friendly people? Transport links? Shopping? Bush fires? etc

Please help!! We seem to be going round in circles.

I work in Armadale and personally think that Kelmscott is a nicer area. I don't really know anything about the schools though - have a look on aussiemove.com and it will give you links to schools in that area you can then contact them directly - but do remember that they'll be breaking up for their big summer holidays soon until February. Billy Braveheart has settled around that way and I'm sure he and Janette won't mind you PMing them about the area and schools

Anywhere west of Albany highway, the "flat" bits. The areas near the railway line in particular. The area has some of the cheapest housing and rentals in WA and it's not totally uncommon for cheap housing to bring in some tennants that others may think of as undesirable.

If you think of what you don't like about Thornlie and Gosnells; Kelmscott's got all that in abundance and more.

The hills area of Kelmscott is almost a totally different area.

It's more about the kids than the school. What are your girl's like? I have a friend who went to Kelmscott primary then the high school. It didn't stop him from turning out fine, topping the state in some exams and getting a PhD in Nuclear medicine.

There is a train going to Perth. The Albany highway or Tonkin highway will get you quickly away from the area.

Thanks for your replies.

Ali - I have had some contact with Billy and he has helped me with info about removals and bringing my dog. They live in Forrestfield, which is another area we are keen on so might just speak to them again.

Bob - The areas we were looking at were east of the highway which is reassuring in what you said. My oldest daughter is top of her class (9 yrs) in reading and writing which she loves and both of them are very socialable and enjoy school/nursery.

Were are slowly narrowing down our options.
Thanks again for the help.
