can we work for the government??????

Hi all, looking for some advice plz, can someone please tell us when we move to oz my husband was hoping to get work with the likes of maybe perth council etc due to the nature of his job just now here in the uk. BUT i have read that you must have citizenship to work for local government, and as cant get this until 2 years residency that would rule that out! can someone please please clear this up for us we originally thought it was citizenship or perm residency?????? also does sponsorship give prmanent residency? ive read that much my brain is fried!!! thanx x

I know the position with Commonwealth/federal jobs you need to be a citizen, but here in Victoria for state jobs you generally just need to be a permanent resident. I would be very surprised if at local government level citizenship would be a requirement.

thanx for that no one seemed to know the answer it took three calls to different migration agents today to finally be told that as a perm resident we can work for local government ! thanx again
