New Family moving to Joondalup, Wanneroo, WA, 30.12.07

Hi All,
New family moving to Joondalup (or Wanneroo) Area 30.10.07 (99%), we are all looking forward to the start of our new life. So much to do, so much preparation. Would love to meet new friends in the area.

Just thought i would say hello to all who are out there already out there.
We would appreciate some advice if anyone knows what the public schools are like in Wanneroo.

We may be living in Tapping so wanted to know about Tapping primary school and Wanneroo Senior High. Otherwise which schools have a good reputation.

Also which is the best communication device to use with family and friends via webcam?

Thanks for help and great to listen to other peoples stories, sometimes with a tear or two shed regarding leaving family and friends behind.

Dave & Family

Kids are well catered for re schools in said area.......... our three boys went to East Wanneroo Kindy........... then primary school. We opted not to send them to Wanneroo High once we moved to Carramar from Wanneroo (next to Tapping).......... as it had a bad reputation at that time. We have friends whose children currently attend Wanneroo Snr High........... no problems. Our boys all went to Woodvale Snr High.......... cannot praise it enough. Although we were out of the catchment area in Carramar............. they all got a musical scholarship. Other options are would you believe............ football and basketball scholarships?

Check out the Carramar/Tapping Resident's Association............. that will give you some idea as to what is going on in the area. You will have no problem making friends as the schools are ideal for you striking up a friendship with other parents.

Tapping and Carramar have great schools................ very popular though......... usually a waiting list. If you do end up in Tapping............. you are welcome to pop in to our place for a cuppa or a glass of wine............. and show the kids our kangaroos if they haven't seen one before.

It won't be too long before you get to know other people........... or how the system works over here?

Good luck/

Hi Dave and Family,

We moved here 5 weeks ago and live in an area called Ashby which is below Tapping. Our 6 year old goes to tapping primary and loves it there. Not sure about any other schools as we loved Tapping school when we saw it.

As for communication devices, you need skype or msn messenger but need to use them on a broadband service as at the moment we are still on dial up and it is rubbish. When you have your broadband then you can call for free or even call landlines for just over a penny a minute through skype.

Keep us posted on where you eventually settle and we can arrange a meet up. If you need anything just give us a ring, you can pm me for our mobile numbers if you like.

Sarah.

Talking about Kangaroos, we have been here 5 weeks already and the only person to have seen some kangaroos is the OH when he was working at The Vines Resort. We haven't rushed to do tourist things as we are here to live and want plenty to do when my parents and brother come out to stay with us in December. It seems rather strange to not have seen a kangaroo or koala yet though!

You shouldn't have said that about the roos................ chances are you'll now hit one just like i did when driving along Joondalup Drive minding my own business.

It came out of nowhere........... must have been about 10 foot up in the air........... I braked.......... came to a standill way in front of it but it landed on the bonnet........... smashed the windscreen and dented the roof. $4,000-00 worth of damage.

Hi Bobcat,

Knowing my luck that would happen to me. My car as we speak is at a garage being repaired after having a bump in Lakeside shopping centre. $4200 worth of damage and 2 weeks to fix the bumper and bull bar! Seems a lot to me cost wise.

I will definitely avoid Joondalup Drive for a while! HAHAHAHA!

Would be nice if our kids grew up to be lawyers.......... dentists........... or panel beaters eh.............. that's seemingly where all the money is?

If you've never never been............... take the kids up to Yanchep National Park. It's roughly a 20 minute drive up Wanneroo Road from where you live.................. loads of roos......... koalas. Theres a lake.......... a pub which does good meals............ a pool for when the weather gets a bit hotter................. all in all it's a good day out; great place to take tourists. They have crystal caves up there too........... but I got a funny feeling that has been closed down for safety reasons since it got vandalised?

Good luck in dodging the roos......................... glad to see you've settled down okay in the northern suburbs............ good isn't it...........!

Cheers for that Bobcat, that sounds like a good idea. I will look it up on the web in a moment, I thought it was a lot further than that.

(My kids wanted me to put these on so don't worry they don't mean anything.)
